It was after lunch that all the students that were of-age were made to line up in front of empty rooms that were used to administer the Aptitude Test every year.
Abnegation, being the most willing to volunteer their time, make up most of the test administrators but because the rules state that you can't be test by someone of your own faction, there is also an Erudite and Dauntless member to test the Abnegation students.
"Fuck, could this line be going any slower" Katherine mutters under her breath.
America snorts, "that's not a very Abnegation thing to say."
"Abnegation can go ahead and shut the hell up because my anxiety says otherwise" She replies, her fingers tapping continuously on her leg.
"Hey, everything is going to be alright. There's nothing to be afraid of, you know? Trust the test and it'll all work out" America said pulling the taller girl in for a hug and brushing her hands through her hair in a soothing way.
Katherine nodded, "you're right, I'm probably just working for nothing right."
"Awe is the stiff crying" a voice says, judging by the irritating tone, the two know that it's Eugene Thompson— he's from Erudite. He tries to go by "Flash" but everyone thinks it's stupid.
Katherine scoffs, "Some of us are capable of feeling more than one feeling other than stupidity but I'm sure you couldn't relate"
"You little—"
"Hey now, Woah! Are you really about to hit a girl? Now that's low. Everyone, we have a woman beater here!" America says loudly as she stands in between the pair, drawing everyone's attention to them.
"What the—"
"Let's go Katherine" America mutters as she pulls Katherine slightly further back from where they stood.
"You know I love you but let's try and not get ourselves killed before we even get to leave this hellish faction" America said with tight lips.
Katherine sighed, "Sorry it's just so irritating that we're just supposed to let them talk to us like that. Are we really just supposed to stand there and take it?"
"The abnegation do, but we have one opportunity to leave. I know we're not supposed to talk about our results so I won't ask you to tell me after but promise me you'll do what is right for you and not what you think is right for the people around you" America said with pleading eyes.
After taking a deep breath, Katherine nodded, "Thanks, I honestly don't know what I'm going to do without you but I hope you'll take your own advice and choose happiness."
"Always" America smiled.
While neither one was the poster child for Abnegation, that was why Kate was tempted to stay. The love of the people from Abnegation was pure.
"America Chavez, room seven" one of the Amity leaders.
"I'll see you on the flip side, Bishop" America said, giving her an easy smile.
Katherine wasn't typically such an anxious person but for some reason she couldn't help the fear that consumed her when it came to the topic of choosing a new faction. She wished she could just be as carefree as America. That girl was so sure of herself in every aspect and Katherine didn't care if it was self-indulgent but she was envious of America in that aspect.
But now was not the time for envy and Katherine knew that she had to be brave.
"Katherine Bishop, room four" another amity volunteer called.
Katherine walked into a room and was greeted by a man with short hair. He looked quite a bit older than her but not in a way that made him seem less than, no, this man was visibly tough, brave, and a bit intimidating. He was Dauntless.
