It didn't take long for all the initiates to jump, at least, after they realized that they were not jumping off to their death — a test to see who would be stupid enough to blindly listen to instructions and jump down a seven story building.

Once they were all there, the initiates were led down a dark tunnel. They could barely see a few steps ahead of them, Kate made sure to stay next to Peter because she did not want to get lost on her first day.

"I normally work in Control, but I will be your instructor for the next few weeks. My name is Lena."

Kate heard whispers from the Dauntless initiates of an infamous widow line. Lena Belova ever since Natasha Romanoff's disappearance, the only known successor to the widow line — the most lethal war soldiers.

"Is there a problem?" Lena said, raising her voice slightly which made everyone instantly stop talking.

"Dauntless born — you'll be with Chris Rogers. I trust that you all don't need a tour of the place. Initiates, you'll be with me" the blonde said.

It only took a second for the groups to split, all the initiates were eager to please their new leaders.

"Right, well let's begin."

Lena showed the initiates around the training areas, "this is where you will be spending most of your time or at least where you should be spending your time, if you want to remain here anyways."

"What do you mean by that?" one of the initiates asked, Lucas was his name.

"During the first stage of initiation we keep you separate from the Dauntless born, but you will be evaluated and ranked together. Ten of you will be made members, the rest will be made factionless. Three will be cut after the first stage, the rest will be cut at the end of the final test. Considering the Dauntless born will be much better than you in all aspects, I suggest you take your training seriously" Lena said inspecting her initiates. She usually had a good sense of which ones would make it and which would not but cut out for this lifestyle.

"And if you want a desirable job, well I hope you rank in the top half but we can't all be there can we?" Lena said sarcastically, everyone in Dauntless knew she was top ranked in all areas of training.

There was a moment of silence, the initiates in disbelief that there was a possibility that they would end up factionless and that they would have to compete against people who had been training their whole life thus far. A couple of them grunted in realization.

"That's no fair!" "Why didn't anyone tell us!"

"Quiet!" Lena shouted with a murderous look in her eyes as she glared at the students.

"If you had known, If you had known what? You wouldn't have chosen us? If that's the case, then get out now ! If you really are one of us, it doesn't matter. Remember, you chose us, now we have to choose you." Lena took a breath, cursing out the initiates in her head, god, they get more and more cowardly every year. Sure, if it was up to her none of them would be cut but it wasn't the case. She thought true Dauntless values shouldn't capitalize on viciousness but the cuts would be made whether she wanted them or not. They have to be tough, if they want to survive in Dauntless.

"Let's move on, this is the Chasm. There is nothing at the bottom so don't jump unless you want to die. It happens every year and I'm sure this year will be no different" Lena snides.

Kate moved her head slightly at the bottomless pit with water filling it, it was pitch black with an unpleasant smell. Chasm she scoffed, it was a glorified cliff at best.

"Now, this is the Pit. The center of all life at Dauntless for the most part. Get some food and eat, we'll regroup in an hour" Lena announced as she led them to a dining hall before disappearing.
