Jason and I roam around the beach together while he introduces me to his friends, a few of which I already know, but in between every conversation, I turned my head to look for one girl and one girl only. Rayne.
She's no where to be seen. I'm positive I'd covered the whole party now and I hadn't had a single glimpse of her. Until I did.
In the very corner, away from the prodding eyes, was Rayne. With her tongue down a sleezebag's mouth.
At first I thought it wasn't her, but as I kept my eyes on the moving figures, one thing turned to another and proved my thoughts.
Someone called out my name, pulling me out of the haze. My gaze shifted to Ezra, standing right in front of me, looking confused as ever. "You okay?" He asked, hesitantly passing me a drink he had in his hand.
I tore it away from him and tipped the cup back, as a strong taste burned the back of my throat. Whiskey. Huh. Back in New York all we had at parties was keg beer.
"I'm fine. Just—not used to all this." I made up an immediate excuse to cover up my mood, which obviously didn't work. Ezra knows me inside out. "We can go back home, you know? I'm getting kinda tired anyways."
Ezra didn't look tired at all. He looked as if he could jump in the water naked. He looked as if he was having fun. I didn't want to ruin it for him. "Nah, it's okay. I just need to sit down for a while. Go, those girls have been ogling you ever since you walked over here."
I grabbed his shoulders and turned him around, sending him back in the direction he came from.
Not wanting to go through endless small talk again, I walked towards the water, a good few feet away from the noise.
I sat down on the sand and closed my eyes, tuning out all the chatter and music behind me. It feels nice to have the water as company after so long.
I didn't even know I needed it.
