Jack saw how the flecks of light in her eyes slowly drift away like the sun on the horizon beginning to set, engulfing the sky in a darkness that he once sought comfort in, but right now... it was simply just that: darkness.
To make matters worse, it was all his fault.
"That's why you're here... why I'm here. It's all just another one of your practical jokes, isn't it?"
"What? No." Jack had never heard her this down before, and he never wants to hear it again. It shocked him with a pain worse than whatever he did to Hiccup's leg half an hour ago. "No, no, no."
"'Behold, everyone! Look who I bagged: Elsa Adelle. All it took was letting her believe I actually saw her as someone other than the perfect girl--'"
"Listen, listen!"
"...and she fell for it. Hook, line, and sinker." she begins to walk back, retracing the prints on the snow.
"Elsa!"
"And to think I actually liked you."
Time couldn't stop him quite like she did. Jack's eyes were as wide as flying saucers from another planet.
"W-wh-wh-wha...?" Did he hear that right?
"I've always liked you, Jack." Elsa's sigh felt like an eternity. "I just kept waiting for the day you'd finally have the backbone to ask me out. I even had to inquire Hiccup for help! Why do you think I accepted so quickly?"
He did hear that right.
"I... me?"
Do I really have to spell it out for you? She huffs.
"You make me laugh, alright?"
The one thing about him that he thought would drive Elsa running for the hills was what drew her in after all?
"But now, you just make me cry."
So, this was what being on top of the world feels like, Jack thought... because he felt he was about to fall off and crush his bones from that very height.
Before he could say anything else— a reply, a comeback, an acknowledgement, anything! — a warm, wet, and definitely unwelcomed sticky substance fell on the top of his sorry head, followed by the guttural caw of a bird.
A seagull had pooped on him.
Jack wanted to die.
In an instant, the tears welling up in Elsa's eyes had vanished into thin air. That was all it took.
She lets out a hearty hoot of laughter, as warm as the fecal matter on her date's head. She snorted, cackled, chortled. She was in stitches. A guffaw that would give Santa Claus' a run for his money. It was a noise that would surely be enough to turn off any admirer of hers... but not Jack. He joins in on her hoo-hah, even louder.
