Regulus was late for potions class. He runs into the classroom and everyone looks at him. He doesn't know what they are doing, but everyone seems to have a vial of a liquid on their desks.

Suddenly a familiar... smell comes to him. Known.

-Hey Evan, is Potter in class?

Evan seemed to be having fun.

-Why do you say that?

-Well, it's obvious that this reeks of him. Smells like that eucalyptus shamphoo he uses and .......

And suddenly Barty walked in, making more noise than Regulus as he grimaced.

-Evan, you have a fucking problem with your cologne. It's going to get up all of our noses at this rate.

They all looked at him, silently. And then, oh. Regulus understood: they were doing amortentia. Apparently Barty knew it too, for he turned red and sat down near them. The professor didn't seem to know where to put himself.

-Well, and as you can see, the potions... the professor was talking but no one was paying attention to him.

-So, you and Barty? -Regulus asked, smiling.

-What about you and Potter?- Barty reproached. They both looked equally guilty, so no one said anything.

-I have an idea," said Barty. "What if we steal one of the jars and throw a party to unveil it to everyone?

Regulus didn't understand. He didn't understand. He thought he liked James, yes. But not that he was in love with him. That was a bigger word. More significant. Regulus was the typical person who found it hard to trust, but then became overly attached to people. And apparently James had been one of those people in his life.

At first he refused him entry, and gradually he began to like him and then...he fell for him. He fell head over heels for James Potter. And now he didn't know what he was going to do. How he was going to move on with his life, with someone like James. Someone who is good, kind, who doesn't stop smiling, and wouldn't hurt anyone.

Regulus didn't think he was like that, and it killed him. Because he knew that if James Potter fell in love with him, it was going to be an unfair love. Unfair love for James, who should be hugging someone whose family hated him, having that burden on his shoulders all the time.

Quite simply, although he knew he liked James Potter, he was not prepared to know that he had fallen in love.

Shit.
