Chapter 3;
Carter hated hospitals, the way they smelt, the way they looked, and the people in them and just the general feel of the place. She despised the paintings of TV characters on the wall, she knew they were there to try and cheer the children up but honestly if they're in so much pain it wouldn't make a difference. She hated how the floors squeaked as you walked along them, the noise made her cringe. She couldn't stand the smell of badly cooked food and the disinfectant; they were a bad combination. She didn't so much mind the patients but the patronizing nurses really got to her, the way they spoke to you as if you were mentally disabled or were a child. She was quite confused as to why she didn't feel comfortable having Niall bring her here, she didn't know him and she'd never met him but something about him seemed genuine and Carter was willing to trust him, he couldn't harm her in a hospital anyway she figured.
Upon arrival Carter and Niall had been sent in to see the nurse straight away treating her head injury seriously. She'd been given a bandage over the top and some painkillers until the doctor could see her. She'd grumbled thanks clutching her head and collapsed into a seat where they'd been sat the past 3 hours.
"You really don't need to stay here you know, I'll be ok." She sighed turning towards the blonde who was gazing at the wall in front of him. He turned to her shaking his head, guilt plastered across his porcelain skin.
"No Carter. This is my fault I'll stay as long as I need to."
Carter huffed at him; he chuckled swinging his arm around her. She leant against him getting herself comfy.
"Can I ask you something?" He asked not looking at her. She nodded against his shoulder.
"Do you know who I am? Honestly?" He questioned sitting up to study her reaction. She gazed at him dumbfounded what sort of question was that? She wasn't sure how to answer.
What? How would I know who you are? I don't understand we've only just met haven't we?" She questioned; maybe it was her head injury she wondered.
"Yeah; we've only just 'personally' met, but you've never seen me around?" He asked again. Carter shook her head completely puzzled by the sudden questions. Niall looked please with her reaction.
"No I don't think I have." She revealed watching him. He nodded parting his lips as if wondering whether to say what he wanted to.
"If I tell you something please don't change your opinion on me?" He spoke slowly unsure of his words.
"What are you going to tell me you're a serial killer now or something?" She joked. He didn't laugh though he just stared at her.
"Carter I'm being serious." He told her. She nodded allowing him to continue.
"I'm Niall Horan.. 1/5th of One Direction you know? The world' biggest boy band." He confessed. Realization dawned on Carter but she didn't act on it. She shrugged looking at him as if to say 'so?' He gawked at her in astonishment he couldn't understand why she hadn't freaked out by now.
"You're not bothered by that?" He quizzed amazed by the girl in front of him.
"Look, I know who you are now you've said it but no it doesn't bother me, you're a normal person. Sure now I think about it I do recognize you off the TV and things but so what? I did notice people staring at you before but I thought nothing of it, to be honest Niall; fame means nothing to me. I've just lost my best friend and I have no one, you're just a person that bumped into me and cut my head open. That's it." She confirmed pulling her phone out to send a text to her mum letting her know she was going to be late home.
Niall was gob smacked he didn't know what he was expecting her to say but it certainly wasn't that. He might have felt more at ease if the girl had told him to leave or at least screamed a little bit but no she'd acted like she couldn't care less about his position. He didn't know why but this excited him, maybe he could finally have a friend that wouldn't treat him like a 'famous person' he wanted people to act normal around him and that was what Carter was doing.
The pair left the hospital together jumping into a taxi, the doctor had given carter some medication and a couple of stitches but it were nothing serious. The drive to Carter's home was quiet since the conversation the two had been in their own worlds thinking of their own things. Carter had been thinking of how to explain the cut on her head to her mum, she didn't want to stress her out by explaining why she had been crying in the bathroom and then been hit by a famous member of a boyband with a door and how he'd then taken her to hospital and she didn't want her to get stressed at the fact Caitlin had left her. Niall however had been thinking of a way to get Carter's number without creeping her out, he'd figured she wasn't a girl that had much experience with boys at all and he didn't want to push things too far but he didn't want to leave it.
When they arrived at Carter's home Niall jumped out of his side to open the door for her, she stepped out smiling gratefully at him. As she tried to walk past him Niall held his hand out grabbing her wrist lightly.
"Can I maybe er get your number Carter?" He asked, his cheeks tinted pink. Carter giggled nodding handing him her phone to type his number, he did the same.
They departed with hugs promising to meet up soon, Niall re-entered the taxi with high hopes of finally finding someone who liked him for him and not his fame but something about the girl worried him he had a feeling she needed his help.
