"Maddie! I'm going to Starbucks , coming?" I shout while slipping my floral print sperrys on. "Sure, ill be down in a minute!" Responds Maddie. I sit down on our couch and look through social media for a while. I notice that many accounts on insta and twitter are extremely worried.... But about what ? My thoughts are interrupted as Maddie skips down the stairs as into the living room, iPhone 6 clutched in her hand. " I'm ready!" Says Maddie cheerfully. I pick up my flamingo print Lilly Pulitzer wallet ad car keys as we head out the door. As soon as we're in the car, I ask Maddie
" have you checked social media lately ?" "Not recently ,why?" She questions. I show her my phone and how everyone's freaking out. " it's probably nothing!" She exclaims and continues to play geometry dash on her phone. " yeah ,you're probably right!" I said , but something felt different this time, and It didn't feel good. As we pulled into Starbucks, it was empty which was unusual for a Saturday afternoon. An employee Greets us at the door and says " I don't think that you girls should be out here... Haven't you heard ?" "Heard about WHAT?" I exclaim frightened. "The war...." My eyes widen as I signal Maddie back to the car! "Maddie....what's he talking about ?" "I don't know Kenzie but lets get home then we can find out!" We rush home and turn on the TV to the news. Sure enough the news anchor begins with " Ladies an d gentleman please stay calm and avoid going outside.... This is the beginning if the war." I began to cry as I fall into maddies arms. We call out parents who live in New York now and they tell us to stay safe... I miss them !
