Lost

Sometimes I sit out here alone in the darkness, just out of the reach of the light. Away from civilization, but still within a stones throw. What is hiding out here?
We wander into the darkness, always keeping light or civilization close by, our safety net. Something to scare away our own fears.

I wonder, what if the lights went out? What if I strayed further from the lights, the pavement, the safety? Maybe there is something to find, once revered, but now lost. Maybe there is something, once feared, waiting to torment again.
Are the shadows dancing, beckoning me, or warning me? Are the stars casting down inspiration, only to be silenced by the lights?

If I wandered far enough with nothing.... What would I find? What would find me?

Devils and ghouls, shadows and imagination, angels and revelation, or just silence and nothing?

I've heard the shadows laugh, seen the wind caress, as the heavens blankly stare. Something beckons from that periphery, scaring me with truths and lies, tempting me with wisdom and understanding.

I just sent here, on that boundary, thrilled by the prospects, chained by the familiar. One day those chains will be cast aside.

What will find me?
What will I find?
I sense there is something out there, waiting, inviting, yearning. For now, it will still do so, as it has run off in search of other prey.
One day, it will become mine.
