As the two continued to trek through the woods, morning light began to pierce between the trees. Uzui looked around in quiet awe, unaware that the dense forest was even capable of such beauty. The younger slayer walked in front of him in silence (typical), but her shoulders held clear tension and worry.

"You know, the master will not punish you for hiding from him," Uzui said, breaking the silence and making her flinch slightly. "He's a very forgiving man."

Why is his voice so damn loud??? she thought, continuing to move forward. "That's not what I'm worried about."

"Oh? Then what is the issue with-"

His words were cut off as the sound of laughter- children's laughter- reached their ears. A small smile crept onto Y/N's face.

As they finally broke through the tree line and into a clearing, a large building came into view. It had 2 stories, each very large in their own respect. Wind chimes sang from where they were hung from the roof. Banners hung from the wooden beams danced in the wind. Flowers of almost every variety and color bloomed all around. Uzui did note the lack of wisteria flowers. The most obvious thing however, were the dozens of children running and laughing in the yard and on the deck. They looked anywhere from 3 to 12, the younger ones playing with bugs in the grass and the older ones stacked in a dog pile. Out of one of the doors came an older woman, likely around 50 or so, carrying a small infant in her arms. Some of the younger ones rushed to her, pulling at her yukata.

One of the children- a small girl no older than 6- peaked her head up in their direction, tilting it slightly before smiling widely. "Miss L/N is back!"

All heads whipped in their direction before a loud cry of excitement erupted. They ran to the slayer, jumping into her arms and hugging her legs. She laughed, leading Uzui to lean forward in order to see her face. She was... smiling? From the stories of her brutality and the seriousness he had experience earlier from her, he genuinely thought she was incapable of such an expression. Maybe he had judged too quickly.

"How did you sense me, Aiko?" 'Miss L/N' said with that small smile still on her face. "You've never been able to do that before. I stood here for almost an hour once and you didn't notice!"

The small girl bit her lip in excitement as another boy spoke up. "I did, too, Miss L/N!"

"Oh?" the slayer said, voice now clearly laced with intrigue. "And how did you do that?"

Suddenly, several small fingers pointed at Uzui, making his eyes widen. "We couldn't sense you, Miss L/N, we sensed him!" the boy said again. Uzui raised an eyebrow.

"More like saw him" the first girl corrected. "His ugly outfit is hard to miss."

With that, the group of children erupted into a fit of giggles, making Uzui's eye twitch. "How dare you?! I am a god! My outfit is so flamboyant that you simply cannot comprehend it!" he seethed.

"Yeah, flamboyantly stupid," one older boy remarked snidely, sending the group into another fit of laughter. He glared at them before turning his glare onto the other slayer, who just grinned in return.

However, despite how fun it was to watch the kids dig into his ego, she decided to do something before the hashira did anything rash. Y/N quickly shooed the children away and back to their games. Once they were gone, she straightened, releasing a heavy sigh. Her eyes wandered the house and yard, unsure of what to say next.

Luckily, she didn't have to say anything. "So this is why you can't leave, huh?" Uzui said, also surveying the scene before him. He was still a little bitter, but he could admit they were cute. Kind of.
