It had been a week since the team dinner and things between Derrick and I had gotten.... well, let's say interesting for now.
He liked me and I liked him, it was just the kinks that we had to work out.
At this point I was sitting on the bleachers during the team practice. The guys were panting as they were running from one side of the court to the other.
I looked down at my student planner. I fucking hate homework.
I still had a powerpoint and a paper to write, both due tomorrow. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I put the pro in procrastinator.
I pulled my macbook out of my backpack, checking the time on my iPhone as I did. Only a half hour till practice was over.
I opened the macbook and took a sip of my starbucks machiatto.
"Hey Emma!" Luol yelled at me. I lowered the screen on my laptop. "Yeah, Lou?"
"We're gonna kick the balls, could you protect your laptop?"
I rolled my eyes. The boys loved doing this. They would punt the balls into the stands and make the rookies go get them. Thai God my dad was out, or he would have had a fit.
Derrick looked at me with outstretched arms, pleading with me to get the guys to lay off.
"Boy, bye," I said with raised eyebrows as I shut my laptop.
Derrick hung his head as Luol kicked the ball as hard as he could, allowing it to bouce off the seats and roll int the center aisle.
"Go get it, rook," he said, clapping Derrick on the back.
Derrick jumped up the aisles, taking it two stairs at a time. He tucked the basketball under his arm and made his way over to me, laying his head on my lap.
"Hey beautiful," he greeted.
I smiled leaning down so that we were face to face.
"Oy, lovebirds! Lets keep it PG until her dad gets back," Joakim shouted from the court.
Derrick sat up and chucked the basketball at him, narrowly missing his head before laying back down.
"So, I was thinking that we could go out for dinner tonight. Then later we could hit up the Drake concert downtown with Joakim and a few other of these niggas," he said.
I thought for a moment. "Yeah. I could do that. But my dad would kill you if you didn't have me home before midnight.
Derrick clasped his hands, his eyes lightening up. "I can do that. So, its a date?"
I rolled my eyes, pushing him off me. "Don't get ahead of yourself, nigga."
---------------------
I looked at my watch, feeling majorly under-dressed in the fancy Italian restaurant that Derrick and I were eating at.
I was wearing a black skirt tucked into a black and white British flag top with a jean vest over it all.
Derrick put down his fork from where he was eating his tiarimisou. "What's up, bae. You looked nervous."
I smiled at him. "Just feeling under-dressed. You ready to go?"
He nodded, waving down our waiter. "Check please," he said.
I smoothed out my dark wavy auburn hair that I had put into a ponytail as Derrick finished paying.
"Ready?" he asked me, holding out a hand.
I grabbed my black leather bag, tossing it over my shoulder. "Yeah."
By the time we got outside it was 10 p.m and we had 30 minutes till the concert started. I got into the passengers seat of Derrick's Bentley and turned to face him.
He was on his phone, face contorted in the brightness of his cell phone.
"Joakim's already there, so is Lu and Thabo. Thabo brought his girlfriend, Ashleigh with him too, so you've got another girl to talk to," he said.
"Thabo's got a girlfriend?" I asked incredulously.
Derrick shrugged. "I guess so."
We got to the concert in 15 minutes, meeting Jo, Lu, Thabo and Ashleigh in the parking lot.
Ashleigh was beautiful. She was 5'9 and the perfect kind of skinny that showed off her curves. She had brown wavy tresses that ended halfway down her back and was wearing a bra covered in rhinestones with studded jean shorts and a sheer white tank over it.
"Hey," she said. Just that simple word made me feel intimidated by her. She was so perfect looking that it was rediculous.
I opened my mouth to say something, but Derrick put his arms around my waist, picking me up. "Wassup, babe?" he asked me.
I rolled my eyes, leaning back against his chest as some unknown guy came out on stage. Suddenly I began to scream.
"Oh my God, Derrick! DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS? THAT IS FUCKING KENDRICK LAMAR ON THAT FUCKING STAGE, DID YOU KNOW THAT?" I yelled. "KENDRICK IS MY FAVORITE RAPPER EVER, DO YOU KNOW THAT?"
I was almost crying by the time Kendrick began singing HiiiiPower. Derrick was holding my waist with his chin on my shoulder as I sang along to the song. As it came to a slow close I turned around to kiss his cheek. "Did you know that Kendrick was my favorite rapper?" I asked.
Derrick shrugged with a playful smirk. "Maybe."
Joakim pinched my cheek playfully. "Hey kiddo, such a big girl now, aren't you, going out with your boyfriend and everything."
I rolled my eyes, shushing him as I watched Drake walk out onto the stage.
Derrick put his arms back around my waist, chin on my shoulder as he whispered in my ear.
"You look so damn beautiful, bae," he whispered.
I leaned into him, swaying to the rhythmic beats of Houstatlantavegas.
"What if we made it public?" Derrick asked.
"Huh?" I asked back.
"Emmaline Parker, would you be my girlfriend?" he whispered, kissing my earlobe gently.
I looked at him in confusion. "Oh my God, Derrick, yes! Yes!" I exclaimed, jumping on him and wrapping my legs around his waist.
Joakim laughed. "I'm guessing that you asked her."
