"Lan Zhan, are you sulking?" Wei Ying winced at his straightforward approach. He really had tried for something more tactful. Clearly it had been a half-assed attempt at best.
Wei WuXian was many things – a genius mind unlike any the cultivation world had ever bore witness to, the spouse of Chief Cultivator Hanguang Jun, the infamous Yiling Laozu that commanded the dead to rise and fell battle fields – but subtle was never one of those things.
Seated at the low table and pouring them each a cup of tea the Second Jade of Gusu Lan was having a fit of silence, more so than his usual quiet demeanor during lapses of introspection. No, this was the result of displeasure. He might have appeared his usual self to anyone else except for the people closest to him, namely his uncle, his brother and his husband.
It was because of this that said aforementioned spouse could see the abyss of words swirling in Lan WangJi's brown eyes, all the words his heart conceived yet his mouth refused to birth. And it was exactly his mouth that gave him away; the gravitational pull at the corners and the slight jut that made his plump bottom lip hang just so. Oh yes, the Great and Mighty Hanguang Jun, bearer of hope and light and untainted by worldly affairs, was without a doubt...pouting.
Lan Wangji hummed, neither an affirmation nor a dismissal but a non-committal sound somewhere in between. Placing Wei Ying's teacup in front of him, Lan Zhan took his own cup to his lips. "You are leaving."
Realizing what this was about, Wei Ying reached across the table to grasp his partner's hand, lacing their fingers together. "Only for a few days." He brushed soft circles over the back of Lan Wangji's hand. "Besides, we haven't spent much time apart since my resurrection, if any at all. It will do us good. No one knows what circumstances we may encounter in the future that will require us to spend time separately. Think of it like practice."
Lan Zhan sighed through his nose. "...I want to come with you."
This drew a soft chuckle from his husband. "And you will. You'll be there in two days, remember, Lan Zhan? You just need to take care of a few meetings as Chief Cultivator and assist Xichen-Ge in evaluating the disciples. Then you and our baby Lans will join the rest of us at Lotus Pier."
Rationally, Lan Wangji knew what Wei Ying said made sense. Two days wasn't at all that long considering he had waited sixteen years for his beloved and would gladly do so for ten thousand more...but that didn't mean he had to be pleased about the situation.
He watched Wei Ying scoot over until he was almost sitting in his lap, eyes shimmering mischievously. "Roll up that lip, Lan Zhan," he teased, a delicate pink tongue peeking out to wet his own rosy cushions, "before I bite it."
Lan Wangji pulled his husband against his chest and crashed their lips together in a searing kiss. He sucked on the enticing mole beneath Wei Ying's mouth (what a tease it was, a twinkling little star flickering to get Lan Zhan's attention) and mouthing wet kisses under Wei Ying's jaw. He mapped constellations of love bites all over his beloved's neck and up to his ears before claiming his lips once more.
Wei Ying wiggled in his lap, nurturing a growing arousal in the Second Jade. He threw his head back in bliss and groaned. "Ngh...Lan Zhaaaaan~"
Lan Wangji's restraint snapped. He hoisted Wei Ying into his arms and purposefully made his way through the Jingshi to their bedroom, never stopping in his ministrations on the canvas of his husband's skin.
They loved each other in as many ways as possible that night.
That had thankfully been two days ago. Two torturous days spent without his husband and the whole of Cloud Recesses had been relieved to all but kick the esteemed Hanguang Jun out of the sect and to Lotus Pier to avoid his icy moods. They would never dare admit so out loud but they had missed the menace that is Wei Wuxian for they needed him to temper the Second Jade of Lan, balance him out to a more tolerable individual as opposed to the lofty indifference and rigid discipline he adopted without his spouse.
