y/n quickly stepped out of the restaurant to stretch her arms out, the cold breeze immediately caressing her face as she tried to collect herself. then, with a sharp exhale, she pulled her jacket closer, her fingers digging into her pockets, and sauntered off to the coffee shop a few blocks away.
the bell rang once she stepped in, the heater on full blast and the shop deserted because of the late hour. she took a seat close to the store window and stripped off her jacket, throwing it on to the nearest empty table. if she had to stand outside for another minute, she would have frozen her toes off.
when the waitress walked up to her to ask her what she wanted, she quickly scanned the beat-up menu she slipped on to her table, leaning back after a moment to order herself a cup of hot chocolate.
the waitress then arched a thick brow. "you don't want to buy anything else, sweetheart? you look like you've had a long night."
she considered the offer. she hadn't eaten anything since she left her apartment, thinking she would have had a proper dinner on the date.
despite this, she simply mustered back a polite smile. "just hot chocolate would be fine."
shrugging, the waitress tucked her notepad back into her apron before sliding the laminated menu across the table and scurrying away.
y/n glanced out of the window after shifting into a more comfortable position. piles of snow littered the stone pavements outside, the faint sound of car honks entering the shop whenever the occasional customer hurried inside for warmth. a few new yorkers were finally going home after a long day's work, scarves and heavy coats drowning them in layers as they sauntered past the comforts of the cafe.
even with her attention fixed on the couple arguing outside, she could still feel several people stealing glances at her curiously. looking at her red dress and neatly pinned hair, it was obvious she had other plans that night. she might as well have pinned a sign on her head that said I GOT STOOD UP in big, bold letters.
she clearly wasn't dressed for a place like the expresso express.
just then, a lean figure jogged over from the other side of the street and her eyes trailed after him before finding sudden familiarity from his prominent jawline.
vox akuma from the cinemart downtown managed to get to the front of the shop within seconds, one quick-legged stride after another, and pushed the door open, the bell letting a sharp ring circle around the shop.
vox stepped in and pulled his scarf down, his lips parting at the relieving blast of warm air. he was clearly a regular, what with how casually he slipped in his order to the middle-aged man roaming behind the counter. his lips were pulled into a tired smile before he circled around an empty couch and sat on an old armchair.
a good minute went by, one that stretched to two and another. the boy sighed, palming his face with his hands until he suddenly peaked through his fingers. then his eyes met hers across the shop.
