by the time y/n had hailed a cab and got back to her apartment, it was already two in the morning. quietly kicking off her heels, she slipped her keys back into her purse before looking around.

the apartment was quiet and clean like it always was. a few take-out boxes were stacked on the kitchen counter along with several piles of paperwork. all the lights were off except for the lamp in the living room, close to the couch where her roommate pomu was knocked out cold. her hand was still gripping her phone, the other tucked under her head. her shiny blonde hair was laid out on the pillows behind her, a heavy contrast to their dark-colored furniture.

she could only guess that her roommate tried her best to stay awake until she got home, but was probably too exhausted from work. pomu hadn't even bothered to change out of her work clothes.

sighing, y/n walked over to the couch and eased her friend into a more comfortable position. pomu was a disastrously heavy sleeper, but somehow she still managed to squeeze a pillow under her head before grabbing her one of the spare blankets from the closet. after switching the lamp off, she rushed off to the bathroom and readied herself for bed, her eyes barely managing to stay open while she scrubbed her face clean.

hopping into a blind date at the last minute, getting stood up by someone she barely even knew ㅡ hell, to top off her evening, she stumbled into the guy she fought with at the cinema. of all people in the city, it just had to be vox akuma.

she could only handle so much disaster in a span of twenty-four hours.

only the light shuffling of her feet sifted between the walls of the apartment, the rest of new york tuned down to its quietest as everyone turned in for the night.

after changing into her pajamas, she threw herself on to her bed without a second thought, letting out a sound akin to relief when the comforter was finally pulled over her like a cocoon.

it didn't take long for her to drift off to sleep, vague images of lazy half smiles and slicked-back dark hair accompanying her throughout the night.

"will that be all then?" y/n asked the couple seated in front of her, who both looked up at her with a pleased nod. grabbing both of their menus, she mustered back a smile and tucked her notepad into her apron. "your order will be ready in twenty to twenty-five minutes. please sit comfortably and call us if you need anything else."

she turned on her heels and made her way through the sea of tables, the faint sound of jazz music mixing in with the low rumbles of conversation. despite it being the middle of the week, the silver spoon was packed for the night. a queue of people were even sat in the lobby, still waiting to be seated.

moving past the crowd of employees, she stopped at the small counter leading to the kitchen and slipped the paper on to the order stack on the counter.

it was nine in the evening and the crowd didn't look like it was going to disperse any time soon. every time a group of people left, another batch would step in and take their seats. it was hectic to the point that she got yelled at multiple times already for mixing a few orders by accident.
