Colin felt hopeless as he watched the guard hold his mate in the air by her neck, tears in her eyes as she trashed hopelessly, her feet trying to find solid ground that wasn't there. His heart broke with every sob that escaped her lips and all he wanted to do was to shift and attack, but he couldn't. From where he was lying beaten on the ground, he could barely move. Besides, the threat which loomed above all of them was enough to hold him in place. This monster could snap Lil's neck faster than Colin could save her. He knew it. They all did.

"Funny you're so willing to die for that whore's dirty little secret," the guard laughed into his mate's face. And Colin wanted to cry out and beg her to tell them whatever the hell it was they wanted to hear so badly.

"I'll die either way. By your hand or hers. But I owe her this one. You are not important," Lil wheezed through the lack of air.

"Stupid little girl trying to play games you don't know the rules of. But as you wish," the guard chuckled.

"No," Colin wheezed, reaching out towards his mate, the love of his life as if this pathetic attempt could do anything to save her when this stranger was about to shatter her bones and take her away from him forever. Lil stopped fighting back and just stared at her killer. Her last act of defiance. His beautiful, brave mate. She deserved so much more from this life than this hell.

"Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you," A male voice came from the shadows. It sounded amused. Colin turned his gaze towards the completely dark side of the room, as if he could hope to see whoever was in there.

"Well, well, well. Little girl, looks like today is your lucky day. Turns out you don't have to tell me. You managed to get them to crawl here to save you instead," the man remarked before carelessly letting go of Lil, who fell to the ground with a loud thud and began coughing. But Colin realized she was no longer the centre of attention. None of them were. Instead the man began looking around himself, his eyes searching in the dark for that voice which interrupted what surely was Lil's death.

"Looking for someone? Or perhaps waiting?" A chuckle came from another dark corner, this time female. And just like that, the dynamic of the room shifted and the one who was considered a predator was now very clearly the prey. The man's smile twisted with a new kind of rage as he turned towards the source of the second voice.

"Oh just show yourself, you fucking dogs! Blindly serving that Southern bitch, huh? You think you have a higher army rank, so you can take me down?! Well you got another thing coming. Do you seriously believe I'm here alone?" the man spat on the ground and hissed around, clearly no longer sure where exactly his enemies were. Or how many of them there were even.

"So rude. But since you asked, yes, I do believe you're here alone," another male voice cut through the silence as a response. Then a dead body fell to the ground in front of the man who took a step back just in time for the next one of the voices revealed himself, but this one stepped out of the shadows behind the dead body.

He had tattoos on nearly every inch that was visible of his skin, a mask over his eyes and his lips were twisted in a very bloody smile. He was showing off his canines, which he likely used not so long ago on the dead man at his feet if the massive chunks of flesh bitten out were any indication of what went down. Colin felt sick to his stomach when he realized that whoever this was, just because they were after this man didn't mean they were going to save them.

"What did you..." the man began as he backed away from the clearly deranged psychopath in front of him, but words got stuck in his throat when he backed into a female who now stood like a statue on the edge of the shadows right behind him. She acted faster than Colin could watch and had the man tied down and on his knees in less than two seconds.
