Ashes on the Fire
Chapter 2 - Persecution of the Masses

'I can see them now…' Yorktown thought to herself before her planes drop down from the clouds and into attacking position

The bombers are preparing to drop their loads as the fighters escorted them while they are scattered around the formation

They can see their targets, the Siren fleet going west, away from the formation and by extension, the approaching Eagle Union Fleet

And in the far distance, they can see what seems to be a fast escaping small figure also going east… This must be what the Sirens are after… LOS-1, whoever that may be

As the planes slowly approached the Siren vessels, a few of the Devastator Torpedo Bombers quickly broke off from the air formation and went into their attack course while some gone left and right side of the formation to attack in different directions

And then… Fires erupted

The Siren ships quickly started to respond to the incoming attack, their anti-air defences activating to intercept the approaching planes

Many of the dive bombers and torpedo bombers planes were quickly shot down so Yorktown quickly forced her fighters forward to provide distractions to the bombers seeing as the Sirens doesn't have any air cover which made the fighters main purpose, essentially completed, leaving them purposeless currently

So, Yorktown gave them one, distractions

But of course, the Siren ships didn't particularly care about the fighters as they don't really have any people manning the guns, and against heavy metal targets, the machine guns of the fighters will do little effect on the ships. They are frankly more concerned about the incoming dive bombers and torpedo bombers

So knowing that, they focused their fire on the fast approaching bombers

The Siren ships continued their countermeasure against the incoming attack, their anti-air defenses continuing to intercept the approaching planes

Many of the dive bombers and torpedo bombers were met with a barrage of laser fire, causing explosions in the air and destruction and hindering their progress

Yorktown watches this as she grit her teeth… She and the rest of the fleet is getting closer but if this development continues, then her ragtag fleet would be destroyed…

Her fleet isn't much after all… Most of the other ships in the Pacific were being sent to Pearl Harbour, and the rest on the fleet came from the ships stationed in San Diego or were just there bt happenstance and decided to come along to respond to the clearly distressed SOS

They didn't expect Sirens to be here… After all… They already were gone when the 1920s came by…

This is quite literally… A worrying situation

Yorktown grits her teeth as she settles a decision… She has to do it…

The fighters then started to form around in front of the bombers… They have now been repurposed from distractions, to essentially the meat shields equivalent for the metal planes

'LOS-1…' Yorktown's mind wandered to the person that made the SOS

Was this a trap all along…?

And things are now even more dire as the Siren ships have altered course… Originally going east…

To west

Yorktown hopes that the reinforcements they asked for arrive quickly… Should they even continue their response to this SOS message…? But the Siren ships are now going straight towards the coast… Battle is now unavoidable…
