Ashes on the Fire
Chapter 3 - Stricken Enemies

"Retreat! Fall back to Kochi!!" Elizabeth announced through the communication lines

"We can still hold on!" The familiar voice of Mikasa argued but Elizabeth was having none of it

"No we can't!"

"Ye-"

"Your fleet is now a liability, Mikasa!" Elizabeth pointed out "You lost 2 of your members and the rest are exhausted and injured and the Lefkians has even more forces than we have! We won't hold long enough here the moment they stop focusing on our jets!"

"Retreat is-"

"Swallow up your pride you damn fool!" Elizabeth said angrily "We will get overrun if we don't leave now!"

"Fine! You heard her! Retreat!" Mikasa forwarded the order to the rest of her fleet

Although… Her decision was a tad bit… Too late…

Their jets that were in the air that was previously distracting the airships were all but gone and now they are focusing fire on them… And by a lot

The sudden attack caused immense chaos amongst the ranks of the KANSENs, especially towards the inexperienced 4th Fleet

"Fall back quickly!" Elizabeth announced "Yorktown, Ark Royal, Shinano, provide air support! Fletcher, Belfast, Edinburgh, destroy any jets that get past and support the defense! Akizuki, act as lookout for any surface ships! Missouri, Warspite and Atago, with me! Fire at my signal and target the largest airship in the vicinity! 4th fleet! All of you go back to Kochi! Everyone move move move!"

Slowly, Elizabeth's mind slowly recognized the sound of beeping as her eyes fluttered open

"Grrr…" Elizabeth groaned as she tried standing up only to quickly realize that her hands and feet were tied to the bed "Hng?"

Elizabeth tried a few test tugs to test the strength of the metal chain and metal cuffs holding her down before she concluded that it is as strong as it looked

Whoever tied her here was not messing around

"Hmph." Elizabeth huffed in annoyance

This is the one time she has the opportunity to test her training in escaping sticky situations like this, and it's all for naught because she's too weak and tired to even try it…

Not to mention, she's in unknown territory… After all… Last she remembers, she had just met a Yorktown lookalike for the 3rd time, one of which she has absolutely no knowledge about and someone whose allegiance is unknown

The Azur Lane Coalition is a complete enigma to her and possibly, the rest of the Last Defensive Order as well if even she –one of their highest ranking members doesn't even know them

… Are they even actually-

No no no, not the time to think about contradictions. Escaping is top priority no matter what

"Hmph." Elizabeth huffed in annoyance again as she conducted a few test tugs "To hell we go then!"

Elizabeth then summoned up her remaining strength to pull tightly on the binds

'Hmph, it's weaker than I thought… And here I thought that they would've binded me with stronger material.' Elizabeth thought to herself as she looked at the now destroyed chains
