ANGST
⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
The neighborhood was meant to be a sanctuary, a haven of peace and unity under the watchful care of Priest and the all-encompassing presence of Home.
But the serenity was shattered when outsiders, wandered too close.
Bringing sneering words and cruel laughter.
Their disdain had settled on Y/n, who had been outside tending to the community garden.
By the time they fled back to the chapel, their hands were shaking, and tears threatened to spill. They pushed open the heavy doors and found their leader standing at the altar.
His smile widened as he saw them, but it faltered when he noticed their trembling form.
"Dearest follower." He said, his voice a melody of warmth and concern. "What troubles you? Come closer."
Y/n hesitated but obeyed, their steps unsteady as they approached him. As soon as they were close enough, Priest reached out, his hands light as feathers on their shoulders.
"What has caused you such sorrow, my dear one? Speak to me."
"Outsiders..."
Y/n began, their voice breaking. "They... they came by the garden. They said awful things about us, about me, our way of life. And I... I didn't know what to do."
Priests eyes darkened for a fleeting moment. "Oh, my sweet neighbor." He murmured, pulling them into an embrace. "You are a cherished part of this community. Their words hold no weight here, for they do not understand the beauty of what we have."
They sniffled, leaning into him, finding solace in the way his presence seemed to radiate calm.
"I just... I feel so small. Like I don't belong anywhere but here."
"And here is exactly where you are meant to be,"
He pulled back just enough to look into their eyes.
His expression was soft yet commanding, the kind of gaze that demanded belief. "You are not small, Y/n. You are significant, beloved by both this flock and by m- Home itself."
His voice softened further as he added.
"Outsiders do not see what we see. Their hearts are closed, their minds clouded by ignorance. But you—ah, you shine so brightly. Never let them dim your light."
Y/n nodded slowly, Priests words a balm to their wounded spirit.
"Thank you." They whispered.
"Of course." He replied, his smile deepening. "Now, rest here for a while. Take sanctuary in this holy place." He guided them to a pew, his hand lingering briefly on their shoulder before he turned back to the altar.
Once Y/n was settled, Priest knelt before a glass stained window depicting Home.
His expression shifted, his pleasant facade replaced with something colder, sharper.
"Home." He murmured, his voice reverent yet laced with steel. "You have seen what they have done. My- Our dear Y/n, ridiculed and harmed under my watch."
The walls creaked in response, the sound like a deep exhale.
"This cannot stand." Priest continued. "They have trespassed not just on our land but on your sanctity. Guide me, great one. Tell me how to make this right."
The room grew still, the air heavy with an unseen presence.
A faint hum filled the puppets mind, a vibration only he could hear. His smile returned calm, measured, but with a chilling edge.
"Ah, I see." He said softly. "Your wisdom is infinite, as always."
Later that night, as Y/n rested peacefully in their small home, unaware of the storm brewing beyond their walls.
Priest moved with purpose, his pristine robes exchanged for something darker, more practical.
The outsiders' campsite was not far. Just as Home had shown him in a vision.
The punishment would not be swift, nor would it be simple.
But it would be effective.
By dawn, no trace was left of the outsiders or their camp, like the ground had swallowed them whole. A necessary sacrifice.
Y/n would never know the lengths Priest had gone to protect them.
After all, he thought as he returned to the chapel and knelt before Home once more, wiping his hands, what they don't know can't weigh on their soul.
