Michaels POV

*Riiiing. Riiiing.*

My cell phone continued to ring. I grabbed it off the coffee table and noticed it was….my mother calling.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Michael! Hi! How are you?” my moms overly cheery voice came through the phone.

“I’m good. Not trying to be mean, but why did you call exactly?”

“Oh, right. I’m actually flying into your town. I should be landing in about forty minutes,”

“Alright?” I was slightly confused.

“Well…can you come and meet me. I haven’t seen you or Claire in a while,”

“Uh…yeah, I guess. At the airport?”

“Yes, darling. Once you meet me, we can all go to lunch, but then I have to go to a business meeting,”

“Oh, okay. We’ll see you later, ma,”

“Bye honey,”

“Bye,” I hung up the phone. “Claire! We’re leaving!” I yelled down the hall at her.

“Where!?” her voice shouted back.

“The….airport…” I answered her, only then truly realizing where we really were going.

“Wh-okay…” she sounded hesitant.

“It’ll be okay, I’m not going to let you out of my sight while we’re there,” I told her.

After about five minutes, she came out dressed in purple skinny jeans and a dark grey hoodie, hiding her arms.

“Alright…why are we going?” she asked me.

“Meeting my mom for lunch, she’s flying in. Her plane is landing in…” I looked at my watch, “Half an hour,”

“Okay…” I could tell she was feeling uneasy, and in all honesty, so was I. But no matter what, that girl was staying by my side, I wasn’t going to loose her.

We both left and arrived at the airport with about fifteen minutes to spare. We sat down in the uncomfortable chairs to wait. After a few minutes, Claire spoke up.

“Michael…” she said, looking over at me.

“Yeah?” I looked over and met her eyes.

“I need to go to the bathroom,”

“Okay. Ill stand by the door and wait for you,” I wasn’t letting her run from me.

“That should work,” she got up, and walked toward the restrooms, and I followed behind. When she entered, I stayed by the door, leaning against the wall waiting.

Claires POV

I was feeling uneasy. Wasn’t this part of my dream? Me going to the bathroom, and running away? Was something going to change my mind and make me leave? Ugh, breathe Claire. Breathe. He wont let you run away, he’s right outside waiting for you.

I entered the bathroom, but suddenly my phone started ringing.

“Hello?” I didn’t recognize the number.

“Claire! Sweetie, listen to me…” the voice on the other end started talking. When I heard the voice, I froze.

“MOM!?” I would know her voice anywhere.

“Yes, sweetie, listen to me. I know you’re confused, you thought your father and I died, but we didn’t. It’s too much for me to explain right now. I need you to come to me,”

“Where are you?” I questioned.

“Somewhere. Listen, I need you to get on flight E-26,”

“Now!?”

“Yes! Please honey. It’s me, your mother. I promise ill explain everything once I see you. But I need to see you again,”

“Al-alright.” As I spoke the words, the line went dead. Well, my dream was coming true.

I looked around the bathroom, trying to find any other exit than the door where Michael stood waiting. I turned around, and saw that the other side of the restroom also had a door. I ran through it, and to the nearest kiosk. I bought the right ticket, and made my way toward the correct gate.

My dream was about this, but this was a good thing! I knew Michael would want to come with me, but for some reason I couldn’t let him. I felt bad for leaving him, though.

I boarded the plane, and took my seat. As the plane began to take off, I decided to text Michael.

<Text Conversation>

Claire: Michael…I’m sorry

Michael: What are you talking about?

Claire: Please don’t be mad at me…

Michael: What? Wait, where are you?”

Claire: On the plane

Michael: WHAT!?

Claire: It’s too hard to explain. I’ll be back eventually. I’m so sorry

Michael: Please tell me you’re kidding

Claire: I’m not. Go meet your mom, have fun. I’ll talk to you later.

<end>

I felt so bad. He was going to be so mad at me. I sighed and leaned back in my seat, feeling tired. After a few minutes, I fell asleep.

Michaels POV

I stood outside the restroom door for what seemed like a long time, just waiting for Claire to come back out. How much longer was she going to take?

As I was waiting, I felt my phone vibrate. I looked at the screen, and saw it was a message from Claire. Wasn’t she in the bathroom? I opened the text anyway.

“Michael…I’m sorry” it read.

“What are you talking about?” I quickly typed back, feeling confused. After a few seconds, her reply came through.

“Please don’t be mad at me…” That didn’t sound good. What did she do?

“What? Where are you??” I had a feeling she wasn’t in that bathroom anymore. As I read her reply, it felt as though my heart had shattered.

“On the plane” No. No, she couldn’t be. How was that possible? She never came out of the door.

“WHAT!?” I looked around, panicked, hoping to see her standing somewhere laughing at my. But I didn’t see her.

“It’s too hard to explain. I’ll be back eventually. I’m so sorry” her reply just seemed to hurt my heart more.

“Please tell me you’re kidding” Part of me was hoping she was, but deep down I knew she wasn’t.

“I’m not. Go meet your mom, have fun. I’ll talk to you later” after receiving her reply, I remembered the main reason we had come here. But I couldn’t face my mom, not now. It felt as though my heart had been ripped out of my chest. I was so worried about Claire, I almost felt sick.

I pulled out my phone, and texted my mom.

<Text conversation>

Michael: Mom, sorry. I cant meet you at the airport, something came up

Mom: Okay, that’s fine. I have another meeting right away anyway. Is everything okay?

Michael: No, not yet. But it will be. I have to go, though. Love you.

Mom: Okay? Love you too, bye

<end>

How was I going to find Claire? I had no idea what flight she was on, or where she was going.

But I was going to find her, no doubt about that. Claire meant so much to me, and I wasn’t going to loose her.
