It didn't feel as good as everyone said it would.
In fact, it felt much, much worse.
Nala had come all this way to Finch and is now getting cold feet. She felt pathetic. She felt scared. She'd never spent time away from home besides family vacations, school trips, and the few times she had to stay overnight in a hospital. All of which she was homesick, all of which she literally threw up from nerves.
Nala didn't like the idea of being thousands of miles away from her hometown best friend and all her family, it just didn't feel right.
Her palms were sweaty, her heart was racing. She couldn't tell if it was because of the heat or because she thought she might die from all the anxiety.
"It'll be fine, I promise. You've loved the idea of this school since sophomore year." Kenai, her best friend, stood next to her in support. He'd been the one to drive her, and Nala kept a firm grip on his hand the entire time.
She shakes her head. "I don't think I can do this, Key. I mean, what if I get sick? Or what if mom or pop gets sick?"
"They're not gonna get sick, you know that. And even if they do, I'll be there," He reassures. Kenai wraps an arm around her shoulder. "I swear everything will be perfectly fine, okay?"
He sticks his pinky out, waiting for her to wrap hers around it. He can see every bit of doubt flaring in her eyes, every bit of anxiety coursing through his veins. It wasn't easy for Kenai to leave his best friend in some foreign state, but he knew she needed to get on with her life.
