Anshu’s POV
It was dark, and all I could hear was the silent sobbing that came from the other side of the room, I was terrified, sweats make their way to my eyelids, and fear can be seen across my eyes, I was approaching the most terrible agitation that could destroy me again. The sobbing felt like a horrible torture to my eyes, when I reach the other side of the room, this human was sitting facing the wall, her saree was all blood-soaked, and her hair was nothing but a mess.
I was horrified by each step of my foot, I touched her shoulder, she looked at me, and that one scene made me dead. It was none other than Ayshu. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was a completely vulnerable creation sitting there looking at me.
‘What happened to you?’ I asked her apprehensively.
‘YOU’ she spat the word with utmost hatred and pull out the gun under her saree.
‘No, no please, don’t do it’, I pleaded with tears falling down my eyes.
‘I would never forgive you for what you did to me, not even in my death’, she shot herself by saying that.
‘NO’ I was panting and gasping for breath when I looked around I realized that it was nothing but a nightmare that I sacred to meet the most.
Ayshu’s POV
It was an off day and my next exam is scheduled two more days later I find it as a relaxing day, just laying on your bed after the wake-up session is nothing but pure bliss. I wished to have this same comfort every day, but alas I have a life to develop.
Suddenly my mom entered my room, she startled me and when she saw me laying on the bed even after 9 o’clock she became the furious Khadeeja who started to give me lectures about how I transform myself into that American girl who doesn’t care about prestige and disciple, she becomes very much faultfinding to prove her point. I never cared about her complaints and I’m not going to do so in the future.
She asked me to get up and ready.I was surprised because she always complains about how I didn’t take proper sleep due to my exams.
‘Why do you want me to be ready when I have no exams today? I thought I would take a break today and what is this sudden emergency? I asked to clarify the situation.
‘Do I need to explain to you for every action I stared at her until she give up
‘Ok fine, today one family is going to meet you and you should behave yourself because they belong to a prestigious family in Palakkad.’, said after my never-ending eye lock with her.
‘What?’ I shouted after the declaration, how could they even possibly think about marriage at this time? I’m in the middle of my exams and they are talking about my marriage. Are they all gone insane?
‘Sorry Mom, but I feared that you need to call them and cancel it because I’m not going to stand there like a statue when I have no interest in marriage now’, I said to her pulling my comforter above my head.
She came and pull out the comforter.
‘What is this new drama? You can’t insult us in front of this family, your uncles would kill you if they heard what you said, now stop this drama and get ready and also wear a saree.’, she said and went without even listening to what I wanted to say.
I felt terrible, I have exams in two days and instead of studying, I need to conduct a show for some stupid fellow and his family whom I never meet in my entire life. I knew about my family, they give more importance to promises than cash, and prestige, and dignity were so precious to them than humanity.
I have been escaping from all these traps for the past few years, and now since I’m almost at the final stage of my studies, I don’t think I would find an excuse to escape. What should I do?
They arrived at noon, my whole family was there, they met me but the man whom I’m supposed to marry didn’t show any interest in initiating a talk with me, he was scanning me from top to bottom and looking at me like some filthy creature.
So I took the initiative and said to my mom that I want to talk, she first said it was not possible but finally, after my continuous pleading she asked my uncles and they agreed. So we were gone to the garden area where we could find a little privacy even though all other eyes were still fixed on our talking.
He sat opposite to mine on the chair and I also sat, he was just looking at me and scanning and I felt that more than bearable
‘So what are you doing?’, I started the conversation.
‘Don’t your family tell you I’m running my family business and we have hectors of land and I’m the in charge of that.’, he said by showing his teeth.
‘That’s nice, so what is your educational qualification?’
‘Education? Why should I need education when I’m the boss? Haha, you are so funny, he laughed and his belly started to move when he laughed, horrible to watch.
‘So you are saying that you never went to school or college?’
‘No, I went to school and I studied up to tenth grade and I’m the only person in my whole family who completed the school’ he said with ultimate pride visible on his lines.
‘Then why don’t you pursue your studies? Is there any financial crisis?’
‘We never have any financial crisis and I stopped my studies because which school would accept a student who failed the exam? You are truly funny’ he said giggling like an idiot.
And I felt to run, how can my family even think about doing a marriage alliance with a person who doesn’t even complete their higher secondary education? I felt betrayed, I want to scream but I compose myself.
‘So would I get your number? We could discuss our future without our family knowing, you know chatting like new generation kids’ he again giggled.
‘I am afraid that you never need that, because we are not going to meet even in hell’
I stood up and left.
