The shoe came out of nowhere. Before anyone could react, it had already hit the Managing Director of Grants Food Co. right in the face. He screamed and writhed in pain, but no one in the large conference room was looking at him.
Everyone was staring in shock at the newly appointed Head Director of The Mirage, Miss Lauren Pierce, who was calmly taking her seat after having thrown her perfect Jimmy Choo's across the room at her ex fiancé and biggest competitor, Caleb Grant.
"Byers, my shoe please if you will?" she prompted, sending her trusty assistant to fetch it."Miss Pierce -" an executive interjected, but she cut him off with a curt wave of her hand. "This is the end of this unproductive meeting, do you all think I was going to let this idiot supply food to my hotel ? Have any of you done any actual research or are you all just desperate to kiss his ass?"
She turned to Caleb, who was still clutching his jaw and glaring at her from the far end of the table, "And you, don't embarrass yourself by showing up here without some sort of plan. I will not be taking this proposal into consideration, so come back when you're ready to do some real business." She stood up and left the room, some jaws still open in her wake.
Back in her office , Lauren sat down at her desk and looked up at her assistant who had followed her in. "What else is on my schedule today?" she asked, seemingly unfazed that she had just casually hit her ex in front of a room full of executives. Byers stared at her, confused. He'd worked for her for years but she never ceased to amaze him.
"Don't look at me like that, you know he deserved it." she said, hiding a smile. It did feel somewhat satisfying seeing him writhe in pain. After everything he'd put her through .. "Nothing more today miss, although your brother called earlier about dinner ?" Byers said, handing her her phone. Lauren sighed, the smile leaving her face. She really wasn't in the mood for meeting her family today. Her brother had probably cooked up some new scheme to take her hard earned position and her step mother's awful cooking can't have gotten any better in the past week, can it?
"You can clock out then, Preston. I still have to go through some potential suppliers first." she said, waving him off. Once alone, she opened her computer and started carefully going through her emails, as this was a very important decision she couldn't leave up to her subordinates. Time flew by in a hurry and it was past 10 pm by the time she was done. She got up, gathered her jacket and purse and made her way to the elevator.
The Mirage was a beautiful hotel and one thing she loved the most was its glass elevator that overlooked the green courtyard below, which she now stood facing. The lobby was empty save for a few guests checking out, a few bellboys and the doorman, who bowed to her as she passed by. She gave him a little nod, just as her driver pulled up and opened her door. A few raindrops touched her skin, causing her to look up. She frowned and got in quickly. Rain wasn't her favorite thing.
"Miss Pierce, where to?" Turner, her driver and bodyguard, asked her. "Straight home please," she replied, looking forward to a long, refreshing bath and a glass of wine. Her phone rang, an unknown number flashing across the screen. She sighed and picked up, already telling this was going to test her patience.
"Hello? Lauren Pierce speaking." "Lauren, we need to talk-" "Caleb? What the hell do you think you're doing? And how did you get my number?"
"Wait so you actually blocked my number? Aren't you being overdramatic over nothing? I only cheated on you once or twice, and we could've just talked it through -"
