Waking up at the ass crack of dawn on a Monday, feeling rejuvenated and somewhat content, I lay in bed thinking about all the events that played out the day before, my habit of waking up before my alarm could ever so harshly wake me up can be rewarding and annoying at the same time, as it leaves me constantly exhausted most of the time.
Although having finally broken free from the clutches of those who were once my so-called parents – the wicked witches of the wild west, I can't escape the infernal abyss that breeds the very root of most kids' misery, aka, school.
After 30 minutes of just laying there and staring up at the ceiling, contemplating whether school really is necessary, I begrudgingly decide that apparently it is, not wanting Amo to drag me to school in my pajamas like she did with Ivy last time. The memory making me shiver at the thought of the second hand embarrassment that brought on.
As I got up, I headed to the bathroom to grab my toothbrush and apply some toothpaste. While brushing, I walked into my closet to choose my outfit for the day. I decided to wear black cargo pants, a pair of black Converse shoes, and an oversized grey sweatshirt with a white tank top underneath in case it gets too hot. After pulling out all the necessary clothes and a matching pair of undies, I returned to the bathroom to complete brushing my teeth before hopping into the shower.
When getting out of the shower, i immediately wrap my body in a towel making sure to avoid the mirror before setting aside the next half hour just to enjoy soothing skin care and give my face a natural glow – honestly, my morning routine is like my personal therapy session. It's my way of getting into the rhythm for the day and quieting down all the racing thoughts in my head. Not wanting to do too much with my makeup today, I decide to just put on some concealer for my dark spots and mascara.
I usually listen to one of my playlists while doing this, personally, I'm more of a rhythm girly when listening to music, whether the song's got a soulful sway or a bit of a saucy beat – it all just clicks for me. There's some sort of magic when the singer's voice mixes in with the music's rhythm, like a secret comfort I can't really explain. I've got playlists for pretty much every mood under the sun – my go-to musical remedy for whatever life throws my way!
Finally deciding that I should finish up, I put on some lipgloss for a clean look, get dressed and decorate my hands and ears with my everyday jewelry that consists of many rings to decorate my fingers and a silver chain that has a white sword pendant, along with my nose peircings, not forgetting to add a few spirits of my favorite perfume, Ombre Nomade from Louis Vuitton. Ivy bought it for me as a gift two years ago for my birthday, and I've never turned back.
Just as I finished tying my shoelaces, Penelope's phone number popped up on my phone screen, "Hey Penny." I greeted her while grabbing my school bag and packing the last few essentials I'll need throughout the day "Hey, we're on our way. Are you ready yet or should we just enter and wait for you in the living room?" She asks, I can hear Ivy and Amo arguing about Pizza toppings in the background which makes me laugh "Nah I'm ready, I just finished actually. Are we going to get breakfast on the road?" I ask, not sure whether they've eaten or not "No thats ok, Ivy already prepared fruit bowls for us last night." She told me excitedly, Ivy makes the best fruit bowls, it's like she knows exactly which flavors suit each other "Ok cool, see you in a bit." I say zipping up my bag and heading downstairs "Yeah." Penelope responds and drops the call.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I turn right into the living room to put my bag down on one of the one seaters and turn around again to head into the kitchen to grab a glass of a water and my water bottle. Making sure to pack my water bottle away, I grabbed my air pods and just when as I zipped up my bag, I heard a car outside and a notification come from my phone.
Locking up the house I walked towards the Black Mercedes G-Class, happy with Amo's choice of transportation today. Getting in, I'm immediately greeted with a warm hug and compliments, making me laugh at the excited tones of my friends "Firstly, great choice Amo-" I was cut off by Penelope "How do you know I didn't choose the car?" She asks glaring at me playfully "because I know you would never choose this specific car, even if your outfit choice permits you to do so." I sass while pinching her cheeks and squinting my eyes like you would do to a baby.
Slapping my hand away she sits back and sulks as if I just said no to going to the playground "as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted..." I give Penelope a playful side eye which she returns "Great choice on the Car Amo and you guys look amazing." I say giving each of my friends an approving nod as I look them over, liking their clothing choices. "Idk if you guys read my mind or something but we're high key matching." Ivy says noticing how our outfits are coordinating "not really matching but they're similar." I add.
Ivy was wearing an army green cargo mini skirt, a grey long sleeve cropped top and black platform boots with her hair styled in an updo with spikes stiking out. Penelope was wearing olive green baggy jeans, a black corset and black and white air Jordan's with her hair braided back in a beautiful cornrows plait, adding to the grungy aesthetic of her outfit. Last but not least, Amo decided to go for a more laid back style like myself, she wore black jeans, brown and green oversized T-shirt with a grey and black plaid shirt over that and grey Converse with her hair left curly and a black beany over it.
"I think it's the colour coordination." Amo pipes in before adding "Mom said me and Penny looked like we're going to kill someone." She finishes chuckling "I mean she's not wrong..." Penelope says while pouting her lips and turning her head to the side to side eye me and Ivy, as if to say "you know she's not wrong." This causes me and Ivy to look at each other "Hey-" we were about to protest when Amo chimed in "We're here, and it looks like we got some fresh meat to fry." She says, eyeing the slick black Aston Martin and 2020 Lamborghini Huracan parked right in front of the school "either that or someone's getting sent to jail, cause what would any rich person want to enroll their kids here?" Ivy says still looking at the cars as we get out of ours after Amo parked "You do realize youre rich too right?" I say looking at her like she just said something dumb, which she did "Yeah, but-" she tried to defend "No buts you just don't like rich people." Penelope says this time "Ugh, you're right. But in my defense, we've never had any good memories with rich people." She says pouting "True." Amo pipes up this time.
Just as we walk into the school building, the principal announces something pver the speaker "Attention all student, please make your way into the gym." She finishes "Either way we're about to find out..." Penny trails off as we walk into the gym. Almost all the students were here but drew our attention we're the big men, clad in all black suits with four bodyguard standing on either said of the 3 men, standing a few feet away from everyone, just watching as if waiting for something to happen. "Let's go sit there." Amo says dragjng us towards the bleachers, while Ivy, Amo and Penelope are coming up with ideas as to why were here, I was still looking at the new comers when I made contact woth an older looking man and something just clicked in my head "Ngaba asinguye uDon we-mafia yaseAfrika?" I ask switching to Xhosa since we were surrounded by a lot of people, still keeping eye contact with the mystery man.
(Isn't that the Don of the African Mafia)
"Come to think of it, yes it is. What are the Diallos doing all the way here, in Spain?" Ivy asks eyeing one of them, but I don't pay attention as I look at all the other men standing on each side of the older one. One catches my attention as he has the same light blue eyes as me.
