Veronika ("Project OLSen", S.A.F.E. Subject V-111, F6): Created synchronously with the infamous "Project ADSen", the experiment known as "Veronika" was one of Xirxine's first attempts at creating an artificial Shifter. Spawned from the DNA of three donors—Doctors Angelica "Shifter" Woods, Omar Lawson, and Opal Lawson—Veronika was first thought to be an unsuccessful attempt at a merging of fennec fox and human, and was thus slated for termination. However, this order was rescinded when the Lawsons requested permission to study her genetic structure for future research purposes.
Veronika was experimented on extensively, and often inhumanely, even by those she called her "parents". They were not fond of the more gruesome—and commonly invasive—procedures, but were forced to perform them in order to maintain the assertion that Veronika was worth keeping alive. Veronika understood this and loved Omar and Opal through her pain.
The experiments came to a jarring end when the Opening took place, unleashing hell on Earth in the form of the twisted Inner Gods. Omar and Opal were both declared M.I.A., while Veronika was sent to a bunker beneath Xirxine International. There, her memory was wiped and, following the Convergence, the experiments began anew under Dr. Phineas Yanshuf's watchful eye. With no knowledge of the outside world or her prior experiences, Veronika requested internet access. The heads saw no harm in granting that request, and Veronika was gifted with an official Xirxine-issue laptop.
And as she traversed across the thinnest strands of the web, she stumbled across the doctrine of the Saved.
Completely enamoured by their delusions of grandeur, Veronika fell head over heels for the teachings of Moll Ferris and dedicated herself to learning as much about the radical terrorist cult as she could. Her subsequent escape from XXI (achieved with assistance from Dr. Yanshuf) led to the advent of a new era for the Saved—one in which the "fear of God" was appropriately placed upon the inhabitants of the First Haven through the arrival of the so-called "Devourer of Sinners" and "Angel of Death". Veronika became the Chief Apostle's right hand, cutting down the "Sinners" with cruel precision and rabid force.
However, the Devourer's reign of terror came to gradual end through a series of events, including her romance with the roguish undercover Pantheite Anteros, her assassination of two of her closest allies, and the forced assassination of "Sir Pablo" by her own hand. Disillusioned but ever loyal to the Saved, Veronika found herself at a crossroads, even when serving on one of Xirxine Northwest's Protector Force Teams against her will. She was ready and willing to protect the innocent in the city, but unready and unwilling to battle her old comrades.
