Distractions

The last few months seemed to be normal again.
Except for 2 major outliers.

Number 1 being that Tara had started working at a little diner on the square.
It was easy money.
And a welcome distraction.

She had even made a friend, Liv McKenzie.
Liv also went to Woodsboro High, but Tara had never seen her around.

Which proved to Tara how sucked into her little bubble she really was.
But Liv didn't seem to mind.

Liv was a little on the ditzy side, but Tara liked her.
She had a good contrast to Mindy's blunt and Amber's cool nature.

Liv never seemed to take herself too seriously.

Number 2 Amber had started to act like herself with Tara again.
Despite Tara giving it another chance with Wes.

After their confrontation, Tara truly believed that Amber's behavior had nothing to do with her.
Which is what Amber said.
So Tara accepted it.

Amber didn't have any other feelings beside platonic for Tara.
And Tara wasn't brave enough to risk their friendship based on her own feelings.

This is why Wes was brought back into the equation.

Tara knew deep down that it wrong to use Wes.
But she spent the last few months desperately trying not to "use" him.

She needed to get over these feelings for Amber.
If she could feel something for Wes, she wouldn't have to worry about losing Amber.

And Wes had been great.
He was the ideal boyfriend.
Sweet.
Understanding.
Attentive.
Trustworthy.
The literal definition of "nice".

But Tara was beginning to realize that she didn't want nice.

One night the couple had been making out at Tara's house.
Unfortunately, making out was a generous name for what they were doing.

In her heart, Tara wasn't ready to have sex with him.
But she did want...more.
At least, her teenage hormones did.

She was running out of ways to hint this to Wes.
He was always sweet and respectful with her.
Never pushing the limits.

He never grabbed her like he couldn't get enough of her.
Never seemed to be desperately wanting to feel any part of her body.

Tara wanted excitement.
Isn't that what you're supposed to feel with someone?

Every physical encounter ended the same way.
Wes politely stopping.
Tara internally groaning.

It reached the breaking point when she had a sleepover at Amber's.
She had been with Wes earlier that day.
And she was feeling...frustrated.

Sometime during the night, Amber's leg draped over Tara's waist.

Amber was asleep so it must've been unintentional.
Yet left Tara wide awake.
And on fire.

She slowly turned her head towards Amber's.
Her breathing was deep and even.
Fast asleep.

Tara couldn't fight the urge to run her hand across the top of Amber's thigh.
Her fingertips buzzing as they slid over soft skin.
