When Tara woke up the next morning, she could hear her mother rustling around downstairs.

Cristina has always active during her "sober" phase.
Always looking for a distraction.
If Tara had to guess, she was reorganizing the entire kitchen.

During earlier phases, Tara had hoped Cristina would distract herself with motherly duties.
Like cooking breakfast for the two of them.

But Tara was always disappointed.

She decided to just go on over to Amber's house.
She assumed Amber's parents were already gone.

A reason Amber understood Tara like she did.
They both knew what absent parents felt like.
Amber's parents were workaholics.

They were rarely around.
If they were, they basically ignored Amber.

Amber never acted like it bothered her.
Hence the many parties at her house.

But Tara knew those were a compensation.
Amber wanted people around her.

Well...she just didn't want to be alone.

Tara snuck into Amber's house as quietly as she could.
Amber was grumpy in the mornings, especially if she was woken up.

Tara began to make breakfast.
Something neither of their parents ever did for them.
But they had each other.

Tara loved taking care of Amber.
She loved being taken care of by Amber.

They were a team.

As Tara finished with the last few pancakes, she turned around to find Amber walking into the kitchen.

"What the fuck dude," Amber exclaimed.

See? Grumpy.

Tara frowned, "I should've warned you."

"You think? Nearly gave me a heart attack."

"Amber Freeman scared? Whoa," Tara giggled as she pushed a plate towards Amber.

Amber rolled her eyes, "Thought you'd be over much later."

Tara smiled, "I told you I missed you. Plus I'm feeding you."

"True, no complaints here then," she said as she sat down at the counter.

Tara smiled as she leaned over the counter across from her.

Her heart warmed at the sight of Amber eating the breakfast that Tara had made for her.

Taking care of her girl.

Because that's what best friends do.

The two girls ate their pancakes in comfortable silence. This was a regular pass time for them. They'd constantly be at one another's house.
Tara would cook because Amber could burn water. Then they would watch Netflix all day.
