Just like any typical day, I entered the subway to return home after a tiring day of job searching in this society. I sometimes wonder how I'm still alive as I stared out of the window. It's getting dark outside, and the train is brightly lit with passengers' eyes glued onto their phones. Some of them had their eyes shut, some of them were staring at the floor, but none of them looked outside.

'Isn't it times like these where we should at least appreciate the world we're born in?'

Thinking back to today, maybe I am not so thankful. But the world didn't do anything wrong. The humans — society... were the ones that ruined all. I am a part of this society, arguing for change yet stuck still to the ground.

I focused on the reflection of myself upon the windows, staring into the blank eyes I'd gotten familiar with.

'For what reason am I still trying?'

I tried to think of at least one reason. What were the common reasons people stayed alive for?

Family?
I don't have any.

Friends?
What a joke.

Wealth?
I wouldn't be looking for a job right now.

Pleasure?
I don't have a lover and I never will ever will.

Fun?
I shouldn't be allowed.

I noticed how much of a loser I sound after listing off that. I mean, I've always known, but... Speaking out the harsh truth is always more painful than living in denial.

Screech!

The train shook loudly and caused an unpleasant metallic sound across the cabin mixed with frightened passengers' screams. The lights flickered into darkness. The train took a couple of seconds before it completely stopped. In the dark, you can see people turning on their phone flashlights as mutters of rationalisation of the situation began.

"What, what was that?"

"It's probably just a disturbance from suicide. The engineer will soon make an announcement."

People say things like this without batting an eye. Koreans have treated suicide as a normal occurrence... Just as that man finished speaking, the train speaker began ringing. "Telling all passengers on the train— Telling all passengers on the train—"

It seems like he was wrong, after all. As the automatic voice zapped into the voice of the engineer, everyone on the train who eagerly listened to the announcement turned into a mess.

"E-everyone run away... Run...!"

I watched as serpentine monsters lunged out of the water in the Han River and heard a voice.
