"You don't need many friends, just the right ones"

Zahra's POV May 21st, 4781 - 2:45 PM
30 minutes...
Just 30 more miserable minutes. Maybe if I stop staring at the clock on the wall ahead, time would move faster.
It hasn't
I've been in this hellhole all day, miserably biding time and trying not to think too much. I wonder what the others are up to. Probably waiting for the bell to finally ring so summer can finally start. I bet Haley is somewhere getting high right now. I wish that could be me.
I take another glance at the clock and...25 minutes left. Fuck! Why is the time moving so slow today? I'm ready for this school shit to be over and summer to start. Even Willy would agree with me and she's like the biggest nerd EVER. Although she's been acting strange lately, more drinking than studying...we should definitely have another family meeting.
"Please make sure your end of the year essay's are turned in before you walk out the door, I will mark it as a zero." Ms. Porter's nasally voice snaps me out of my thoughts. Good thing I already turned mine in. I glance up at the clock once again and 10 minutes left. I can't help the little smile that takes over my face. 10- no 9 minutes until the best summer of our lives starts.
The plan was simple really, we'd been planning this since before my 17th birthday. We have over 20,000 dollars in cash not including the emergency stash in the safe. All of our bags with the essentials were packed and on the yacht. We'd need to make a few stops, for Mr. Whiskers and to stock up on food, then we could leave and maybe never come back.
RIING!!!
"THE SWEET SOUND OF FREEDOM!" "YES! SUMMERS FINALLY HERE!" "SEE YOU NEXT YEAR WHORE'S!" and a number of other things are shouted once the bell finally rings and as the junior-now senior class makes their way out of the school building and off campus. I roll my eyes putting my headphones on trying to get to the parking lot as quickly as possible.
"ZAHRA! BABES OVER HERE!" distant shouting caught my attention but before I could look I was rudely being lifted into the air from behind. I struggled and kicked in his grip knowing exactly who it was by the tattoo going up his arm. "Felix! Put me down, I'm not one of your weights." I groan out as he starts lifting me up and down. It's hard to hold back my laugh as he makes dumb faces as he continues to lift me. "Oh I know, you're too light to be one of my weights" he chuckles with his thick Australian accent, finally putting me down. "I thought you were meeting us at the yacht? Why are you at the school, you've already graduated doofus." I ask him, fixing my clothes as we walk toward "Frosty" , my brother's van that he painted himself.
"I wanted to see my favorite short people, and I met up with Miriam not too long ago." he said with a knowing smirk on his face. I visibly gag at the mental image he put in my head. "Seriously Miriam of all people? I hope you wore a condom." I tell him as we approach the other's. "I always do, well when I'm fucking women at least" he says with a shrug. I don't comment after that. I run up to the other's giving them all hugs before piling into Frosty.
"Where to first?" Luca asks as he drives out of the parking lot.
"We need to get Whiskers"
"We need to go to the store"
Willow and Asher say at the same time causing them to side eye each other. We all burst out laughing at the two while Hayley starts to roll some of her special lettuce. I reach into the front grabbing Asher's bag and look for the Tupperware of cookies I know he baked. He rolls his eyes with a smile turning the radio to Lady Gaga- Born this way.
"You're so gay, like twink level gay"
"You act like everyone here isn't a bottom, well except Felix and Hayley they're Alpha material."
"Good point but I could definitely be a top if I wanted"
"Sure Sweetie, and I'll get a super hot supernatural boyfriend" he says full of sarcasm.
"Hey, did you guys hear about those fishermen that disappeared a few months ago? People are saying it was Mer-people that attacked them." Hayley says lighting the blunt and taking a hit before passing it to Felix. "That's impossible, the merfolk don't practice violence" Willow states matter of factly pulling out her flask and taking a sip. This gains a few concerned looks but no one mentions it.
"It wouldn't make much sense if Mer-people started attacking humans, our species made peace a long time ago, it was just a freak accident." Luca states calmly "True, pass the blunt" and we all go back to talking about lighter topics and jamming to music.
Narrator POV
After a chaotic shopping trip followed by a kitty rescue mission they've made it to the docks just before sunset. Everyone either has a shopping cart or at least 10 bags in their hands full of mainly food. Once everything was put away everyone but Asher watched TV as he made dinner and Felix made sure everything with the engines were perfect.
The yacht was beautiful from both the exterior and interior design and had plenty of space for the six of them and more with 5 cabins that fit two people in a room with respected bathrooms to each.
As the night went on they eventually got tired. Luca headed to his single room as well as Willow. Hayley and Zahra shared a larger room while Felix and Asher shared one of the rooms with twin beds.
Summer was finally here for the group of friends, but the real question was will they survive it or perish before it truly began?
