"Louis, open your fucking eyes this instant this isn't funny okay? Come on, open your eyes. There isn't any service out here so I don't know how I can call 999 so I need you to wake up okay? Louis? Louis!?" Suddenly someone's slapping him and Louis' eyes are flying open, going to sit up but suddenly his head is protesting and that's weird, he doesn't remember drinking a lot, why does he have a hangover.
And why is Harry covered in mud.
And why are they all wet.
"Oh thank god," Harry moans, dropping his head down from where he was hovering over Louis so he's against the other boy's chest, shaking from the cold and whatever else.
"Harry, why am I on the floor. And why does my head-my whole fucking body hurt?" Louis asks, breaking off into a moan because damn, it feels like he was hit by...
"The fence was hit by lightning," Harry answers, picking his head back up from Louis' chest and okay, that explains why it feels like he was burned, "so we got electrocuted. Damn it Louis I thought you were dead..." Harry whispers, ducking back down so the top of his head is against Louis' chest. They stay like that, silent, for what could have been an hour (but also might have been five minutes), just feeling each other breathing as the rain falls around them and thunder rolls through the sky.
"We should go home," Louis finally says where he's lying on his back, staring up at the sky as it lights up every few moments, and Harry finally looks up, staring Louis in the eye and this might be the most serious Louis has ever in the nine years of knowing each other seen him.
"We should go to the hospital, you were unconscious." Louis shakes his head and sits up and it's weird, he thinks, he should be really hurt (hell he should be dead) but instead he feels fine, more than fine actually, and he would be scared if he wasn't so...scared.
"I'm fine, really. But wait, what about you? You were actually touching the fence, shouldn't you be like..." Louis trails off, not wanting to say what they're both thinking.
"Dead?" Harry finishes for him, standing up and brushing off his mud-covered uniform trousers, "yeah, I should. It's so odd, when it happened you just went flying, and I saw the lightning hit right over there and everything, but I just stood here, nothing happened I didn't even feel anything, just like a light buzz...that's weird...right?" Harry says, reaching out a hand to help Louis stand up, keeping one arm around his waist despite Louis' protests just in case.
"I, I don't know..." Louis answers, his face crumples and he's obviously confused, they both are.
But he's still not going to the hospital (and of course Louis wins that argument, because this is Louis and that is Harry, Louis wins even when he loses).
"Fine, you prick; let's just go before we get hit again." Harry says, his voice low and Louis pretends he doesn't hear the worry in his tone, instead just heading off in (hopefully) the right direction, Harry following after him with both their backpacks, his umbrella lost somewhere in the wind. They're not too far from their apartment complex and really, Louis couldn't have felt happier if he tried when they set foot in warm air and indoor heating (and on normal days Harry would laugh and tease Louis about the content noises he's making, but right now Harry just rests a hand on his lower back and they walk the four flights of stairs, silent and dripping).
"Bye." Louis whispers, taking his bag from Harry and unlocking his door, not glancing back as Harry knocks for his mother to open his own, and Louis' almost got his door closed when Harry's calling his name. "What?" Louis grumbles, door half closed already.
