Chapter 2: Fighting For You

POV: Luke

The sun had come out through the clouds, leaving Zander to hide in a small cave he had found once he sensed the sun's arrival. Luckily, we were not too far from a farming area and an old basket and some bamboo caught my eye as I approached the area. I ran up to some locals, bowing my head slightly as I spoke up.

"I'm so sorry to disturb you sir but may I take that basket over there," I gestured towards the old basket as I looked at the local. "and some bamboo?" I asked, an almost desperate look in my eyes.

With some persistence, I gave the local some spare change I had on me despite him insisting I take the old basket and bamboo for free. I used the tools at hand to fix up the basket with the bamboo. Once I was done with that, I rushed over to the small cave Zander had hid himself away from the sunlight. I scooted over to Zander, pulling the basket along with me and just judging by eye, there was no way Zander would fit in the basket. Just then, a small idea lit up in my head.

"Zander, love, you know how you grew this morning? Can you perhaps shrink?" I spoke up softly, pointing to the basket.

To my surprise, Zander got in, head first into the basket and shrunk down. I securely tied my scarf on top of the basket to fully cover the top of the basket. I wanted to ensure that no sunlight could seep through, especially because I had no clue what it could even do to demons. The unknown of it is what worried my more. After double and triple check, I carried the basket on my back and continued heading to Mt. Sagiri. Having Zander shrunk down like this made him surprisingly light and easy to carry.

Before I knew it, the sun started to set. I found myself near a small cabin and I kindly asked the woman living there for some directions. My heart ached slightly at the woman's kindness, offering me to stay the night out of concern for me. Even though the woman had a couple of young children to care for, she still worried for my safety. She reminded me of Shannon quite a lot and it only reminded me of that horrific sight. I fought back tears as I pressed on, thanking the mother for the directions before continuing the journey.

Night fell even quicker. I walked alongside Zander and we soon came up to a temple with some lights on. I sighed in relief at the sight of the lights on, my legs were aching and I really need to take a seat for at least a moment. We got up to the doors and I gently knocked before sliding a door open. The sight caused me to freeze up and hold my breath. It was a demon eating people. I gagged as I could even hear it, it was absolutely disgusting. The demon whipped it's head to look at me and Zander and my breath hitched as my eyes locked with the vile creature.

In a blink of an eye the demon launch at me, just barely giving me enough time to grab the hatchet and swing it. I stumbled back and my eyes widened at the sight of the small cut healing up instantly. The demon laughed at my poor attempt at defence and launched itself at me again, pushing me to the ground and cutting off my airways. I gasped for air and thrashed about in a futile attempt to get away. From the corner of my eye, I could see Zander still stood at the doorway of the temple, staring at the bodies inside.

I glanced back at the demon for a mere moment before it's head completely got decapitated and I looked at it in horror. I quickly pushed the body away and sat up, looking around to see what even caused that only to see Zander standing by me now. Did he just do that? How was that even possible?

I tried to brush the thought aside as I grabbed the hatchet and got up onto my two feet, not even daring to look at the demon's body anymore. However, the sound of the demon complaining and getting frustrated at Zander for kicking his head off immediately caught my attention. The absolute vile sight of the demon's head growing arms did not help either, barely even allowing me to register the demon's body standing up without a head.
