Hudson
Beating my goal was easy. I'm excited to go out after.
It's a weird giddy feeling. I haven't felt this way since, well it doesn't matter.
"I'll drive us over there. Unless you want to drive there yourself." Charlie says to me.
"I'll ride with y'all. I'm bout to be as big as a pumpkin after Im done eatin." Everyone but Charlie chuckles.
My gosh, this girl is hard to crack. We all climb into her nice Yukon SUV. Drew gives me the front seat which causes Charlie to roll her eyes.
"So Hudson, got a nickname?" Her friend, who I later found was named Noelle, asked.
"It's embarrassing as shit, but Sonny. My Memaw gave it to me when I was little." Charlie finally cracks and dies laughing. She's laughing so hard she swerves on the road. We receive a horn and it snaps Charlie back into reality.
We pull into the parking lot of Texas Heat. We all walk into the restaurant and get a booth. Noelle, Charlie and Drew sit across from us. Us meaning Mateo and Christian.
The waitress comes over to take our order. "Hi I'll just have a side of mac and cheese, please." Charlie makes me shift my attention from the menu to her.
"That's all your gettin?" She nods, a saddened expression crosses her face.
While I'm twenty-six, Mateo is twenty-four. The rest are twenty-two. Except Charlie, she's twenty-one. Charlie seems way more mature and has more class. Sure, her daddy being mayor has something to do with it but I truly think that's just her character.
We get our food after making small talk and getting rowdy, our waitress brings us our dinner. Charlie barely picks at her Mac and Cheese.
Noelle takes notice, finally, and quickly rushes her to the bathroom.
The silence among the boys is comforting. It reminds me of dinners with my brothers and parents. My dad is the CEO of a furniture company, he was never home at all. Mom is a superintendent of a local school district. My three older brothers are 35, 32, and 29.They all work for either my mom or dad. I'm the odd one out and fucking bull ride instead of opening a furniture store or being on the school board with my mom.
"So what made you do bull riding?" Mateo asks. It's a complex ass story, so I opt for the short version.
"Huge farm. My Papa was a farmer and I had a strong love for animals."
The girls return and Charlie seems better. "We want to go to Ravers after this ." Noelle demands. I groan. Ravers is a very underground club. I've been before but never with a group.
Mateo smiles at Noelle. "Of course we can go to Ravers." Drew and Christian are in their own world.
"I have to change out of this nasty bull ridding outfit. I live right up the street." Charlie agrees to drop the other couples off back at the rodeo grounds and take me to my house. She must assume the best of me if she's willing to come to my house.
When Charlie pulls into my driveway, her eyes widen. "This is your house? It's bigger than mine!"
I throw my head back and die laughing. I tell her she can come inside if she wants, which she politely excepts.
