Maria’s POV:

When the door opened and I saw Sean I had no idea what to think. One second, I was completely happy, looking into Evan’s eyes and smiling at him, and the next the whole world comes crashing down around me. I stepped away from Evan, since I was only about half an inch from kissing him, and turn to face Sean head on.

“Maria? What are you doing in here?” Sean asked me, clearly confused. He even gave a mean glance towards Evan but I decided to ignore that for the sake of a full on fight breaking out between me and Sean.

“Yeah…hey Sean. I was just looking for a camp leader shirt for Evan here.” I told him, placing my hand on Evan’s forearm and keeping it there. Sean noticed I put my hand on Evan’s arm and it was almost like his whole body went stiff.

“Oh. Well I was actually looking for one as well. Judy, the leader, sent me in this direction. She must have not realized that you…two…were already here.”

“Wait…you are a group leader too?” I asked him…praying to God he wasn’t a part of my group. There were 5 age groups so the odds were in my favor, but still.

“Yeah, I just volunteered today. I’m helping out with the 10 to 12 year olds. You’re probably helping out with the younger kid’s right?” Sean asked me with a slight smile at the end, when he remembered how much I liked little kids.

“Oh. Yeah, Evan and I are the leaders of the 6 and 7 year olds.”

“Oh gosh, I’m sorry I am being completely rude. Sorry man, I’m Sean Robinson.” Sean introduced himself to Evan as he stepped closer to us and held out his hand for Evan to shake.

Evan, being the gentlemen that he is, shook it firmly and replied with, “Evan Thompson, it’s nice to meet you Sean.”

Sean released his hand and looked up at the box of t-shirts on the shelf. “Do you think you could give me a hand with these? If you get that chair over there I think I should be able to stand on it and reach it.” Evan did as Sean advised and soon they had both found the correct size shirt and were returning the box to its storage place.

As I watched them I couldn’t help but think about six months ago and what happened with Sean. I knew Evan noticed the strange vibe between Sean and I…and he most likely was going to ask me about him later. But how could I open up to him when I couldn’t even tell my best friend?

“Ready?” I asked the two of them as they turned toward me and the door.

“Yep.” They both replied.

“Good because the group time is probably almost over.” I informed them as we closed the closet door and headed back toward the main room. The tension in the air was almost unbearable because I knew Sean wanted to talk to me alone since I had practically gone MIA for six months and Evan was most likely extremely confused and wanted to ask me questions too. Too bad for Sean, I had no intention on talking to him any time soon. Looks like Evan would win the prize of talking to me first! Yay! Once we got to the main room Sean left us with a slight nod of his head like it was nice to talk to us or something. I turned to Evan and he grabbed my hand and pulled me over to our group. He was acting a little strange but I guess that is expected.

The rest of the day was fun and Evan and I had a blast. Despite the mornings “adventure” Evan and I focused on the kids and even managed to get to know each other more along the way. At 2 o’clock, after I had said goodbye to all of the campers, giving an extra hug to Lily, Grace, and Sam, Evan and I walked down to the beach to relax. It was a beautiful day, as all of the days had been so far this summer, and I was reminded of how awesome my hometown was. I mean, how often do other people get to sit on the beach and stare out into the ocean that separates us from the rest of the world?
