You drove your little yellow Beatle into the grounds of Nevermore, looking carefully at the building. It was storming and cold, and the school looked dark from the outside. It was the late evening, and you could hear the crows outside.
You parked your car in the lot and made your way to the entrance, hauling your bags awkwardly behind you.
" Piece of shit." You mumbled under your breath as you picked up your heavy bag with all the strength you could muster.
" I hope you won't use that diction in front of our students, Miss Y/l/n." You heard an elegant voice behind you and twirled yourself around.
" Sorry." You quickly said, widening your eyes at the goddess of the woman standing in front of you.
" Principal Larissa Weems." Larissa held out her hand for you to shake.
You took her hand and smiled, shaking it.
" Nice to meet you in person." You smiled kindly.
Larissa smiled back and took your heavy bag with ease.

" Whoa." You mumbled, making Larissa smile slightly.
" Follow me." She said, leading you up a flight of stairs.
You followed Larissa and entered a darkened corridor, it was spooky to say the least.
" Got any ghosts here?" You asked, making Larissa chuckle.
" Not that I know of." Larissa responded, entering a smaller passage and opening a door, walking into a room.
" I hope this will be satisfactory." Larissa places your bag down and turned to you, clasping her hands in front of her.
" This is... nice." You smiled, impressed by the lovely view outside of your big window.
" I'm glad you like it, here is the key." Larissa handed you the key.
" Thank you." You took the key and fiddled with it nervously.
" Let me take you to my office."

You followed Larissa all the way to her office, she gave you a small tour of the school and eventually opened the door to her office.
" Take a seat." Larissa smiled, shutting the door behind her.
You took a seat awkwardly.
" It's very quiet." You mentioned.
" Ah, yes. The students are probably in their dorms. Would you like a cup of tea?"
" Yes please." You smiled. You didn't actually want tea, you just needed to hold something either than that stupid key.

" Now, you have come from Soho?" She asked, pouring boiling water into the cup.
" Yes."
" And you were a librarian at the local university?"
You nodded and smiled.
" So it would be inherent for you to enjoy literature." Larissa concluded.
" Yes, especially the works of Oscar Wilde and Margaret Atwood."
Larissa's smile grew and she approached you, handing you a cup of tea.
" Thank you." You said, taking the cup.
" Now then, let's get down to the matter at hand. You've seen the school, well... somewhat..." Larissa smiled, setting her cup down carefully and opening a file.
You sipped your tea.
" ...and you've had experience as a librarian. What, may I ask, made you transfer to Nevermore?" Larissa asked, picking up her cup and sipping her tea, waiting for a response.

You looked to Larissa and thought for a moment.
" Well, I needed a new space to stay. A new environment. Problems with the family, you get the just." You said, not exactly wanting to trauma dump on the poor woman.
" Ah! Well, I'm sorry, dear. I hope that you find an accepting and loving home at Nevermore." Larissa smiled.
" I hope I will." You nodded.
" Now, the rules are as such. Lights off by ten, for students and staff. No loud music and if you do want your partner to visit, please ensure that you receive permission to do so."
" And Jericho?" You asked, wrapping your frozen hands around the hot cup in your lap.
" It's a brisk twenty minute walk, or there's a shuttle on the weekends. The locals are weary of Nevermore so please conduct yourself in an appropriate manner, which I know you will." Larissa explained.
You nodded. " Principal Weems—"
" Larissa." She correct.
" Larissa, thank you for giving me this opportunity." You smiled politely.
" When I read your application, I immediately knew that yoh belong here. And if you ever want to talk, my door is always open." Larissa smiled.
" Thank you, Larissa."
" Of course y/n, now let me show you back to your room. You need an early night. " Larissa got up and placed a gentle hand on your back, leading you out her office.

You walked back to your room with Larissa in silence, admiring the halls of Nevermore, that, with Larissa, you didn't seem so afraid of its ghostly apparel.
You arrived outside your door.
" Again, thank you."
" Of course, dear. Now get some rest. Meet me in my office at eight tomorrow." Larissa clasped her hands in front of her again.
" Will do, good night." You entered your room.
" Good night." Larissa smiled and walked away.
You closed your door and locked it for safety reasons.

You began unpacking your bags, putting your clothes in your wardrobe and making your bed. You placed your books in your bookshelf and ran your shower, trying to decipher the taps. You managed to keep the water hot and you showered quickly before changing into your pyjamas.

You climbed into bed and looked up at the ceiling, smiling to yourself as you slowly drifted off to sleep.
