the sudden silence of war

We watched as the bright reds and oranges, filled the sky.

Illuminating the cold, quiet darkness of where we stood.

The wind blew our hair like wisps about our faces. We heard

the howls of dogs and people. Gun shots fired and whizzed,

across the rain filled sky. A scream erupted from somewhere in the flames, birds scattered away. Small animals fled for there lives. The fell to the ground amongst the new growth.

Our skin was burning. Smoke filled our lungs. Coughing could be heard from near and far. Desperate cries were shouted. then there was nothing but silence, not a cry, not a howl not a sound. Then everything went black.
