The one where you arrive in Cousins for the first time in two years
—
Salt air. That's the first thing you smelt when you arrived in Cousins. It's been almost a full two years since you were here. The last time you were here you were 15, just out of tenth grade and still hadn't fully grown. Well now here you were at 17 and although you've grown, you still feel like a kid. There's something about Cousins that makes you hold onto your youth, not that that was a bad thing.
The reason why you hadn't been here in two years was a bit complicated. Your parents went through a nasty divorce that caused a lot of custody issues, and because your dad never really liked Cousins, he didn't allow you to go during the summer when he had custody. But finally, the custody arrangement changed and you and your older brother we're able to have more freedom on what you did and where you went. And so you, mom, and Justin headed up to Cousins to have the best summer before you went off to college.
Every year you usually rented a house to stay in. Because this was more of a last minute trip there were no houses available but luckily your mom's best friend lived there during the summer in this huge house with her two boys and she graciously allowed you guys to stay there. Your mom, Susannah and Laurel were best friends. They were roommates in college and are still best friends like 23 years later. Susannah and Laurel had come to visit you guys during the year but didn't bring the kids because they were in school.
Laurel had two kids, Steven and Belly, or Isabel but no one calls her that. And Susannah had two boys, Conrad and Jeremiah. You haven't seen any of them in two years and you know that things have changed. You grew up which means they also did, Conrad finished his first year in college and Jeremiah just graduated. Belly was entering her senior year and Steven was heading into college this year. So much to catch up on.
As you drove through the familiar streets of Cousins a wave of excitement, joy and peace raced through you. This was the place that made you the happiest, and the people too. Belly was your best friend, you guys kept in touch but hadn't actually seen each other in 2 years. Jeremiah and Conrad have been in your life since you were born. They were close to you, and you were excited to see them, but also a little bit nervous. You and Conrad have have the googly eyes for each other forever. When you were younger you always thought he was cute and it was apparent he felt the same. Last time you were here you wanted something to happen, anything. But nothing did. Both of you were too scared. And now that it was two years later you weren't sure where you guys stood. Had his crush on you passed? Because it hadn't for you.
As you pull down the street your stomach started to twist. You thought about this moment, but now that it was actually here you were fucking terrified. You didn't want it to be awkward. He means too much to you for this to be awkward. We pulled into the driveway and I swallowed my fears. Don't let them know your scared.
You opened the door and saw the front door of the house open. Susannah came running out with her arms stretched out wide. The boys followed behind her.
"Oh my goodness" Susannah screamed. "I'm so happy you guys are here" she smiled wide and gave you the biggest hug, you smiled back and hugged her back tightly. As she moved onto Justin and your mom you saw Jeremiah and Conrad come out of the house.
Jeremiah came to you with his arms wide open as well, definitely taking after his momma. "Y/n your so big omg" he gave you a hug and you squeezed him back "well it has been 2 years. I'm no longer a little girl" you laughed and pulled away from the hug and made a silly face as you flexed your arm muscles "I'm a woman now"
Jeremiah laughed "you sure are. Damn it's so good to see you" he gave you another hug and then went to say hi to his best friend, Justin.
Then there was Conrad, standing in front of me. Smirking ever so slightly. He didn't smile all that often, he was always so serious. But with you, you felt he was the most happy. "Hey there y/n it's been a while don't ya think?" He put his arms out and stood there, forcing you to approach him for the hug. You wrapped your arms around him and felt at home. The familiar smell of his coconut body wash, and the way he made you feel. It had been two years but at the same time it felt like no time had passed.
You pulled away and smiled at him, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. "So how has the great Conrad fisher changed since being a college boy?" You asked jokingly.
"Ah well you know I learned so much stuff, so I'm so much more knowledgeable, so full of knowledge. You know I really just went there to get some more knowledge and I think I am a lot more knowledgeable" he smiled as he rambled on. You laughed.
"God I can only imagine all the knowledge you learned if that's the way your talking" you joked with him. You and Conrad had always joked around. That was your thing. Teasing, joking pranks, all of it was how you guys connected.
"Oh yea, and I especially became knowledgeable on the refreshments served in parties at college" he put his hand in front of his mouth to block what he was saying from the people to the right of him "but don't tell my mom that". You laughed at Conrad's jokes. He still was the funniest person you knew. Even this short encounter was enough for you to realize that the feelings were still very much there. Conrad was special, you don't think that you can move on from him until you at least give it a shot. From the moment you saw him your heart skipped. The short hug was enough to make you realize that you loved his warmth and his body close to you. You wanted so badly to know how he felt, but Conrad never talked about his feelings. To anyone.
Once all the welcomes were finished you headed inside the house, the moms leading the way. As you stepped through the door you turned around to realize Conrad wasn't right behind you. He was standing a few steps behind smirking at you. That smirk that he only ever showed to you. Did this mean he felt something to? You weren't sure what to make of it but you could tell this was going to be an interesting summer.
A/n: ah this was kind of more filler but I wanted just a quick and cute opener. Like I said in the welcome these are one shots but there may be some continuation with the story line, not really sure right now. But I wanted this just in case I decide to go forward with that. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and I have so many ideas and can't wait to write all of them! Ok byeeeee
