I pushed through the crowded hallways of the school, feeling the buzz of excitement and gossip surrounding me. The word was out — Jason and Meryl were now officially dating. The feeling of disbelief and shock was still palpable, and the truth of the matter was still sinking in.
I still couldn't believe that everything had happened so quickly. One minute, I was just trying to figure out where Meryl was at lunch, and the next thing I knew, we were together. And yet, I felt so conflicted, not knowing just how much Meryl was risking for me.
I headed over to English class, still filled with conflict from the news of Meryl and I being officially together. The butterflies in my stomach were still present, as my heart fluttered just from the thought of her.
As I walked into the classroom, I saw that Meryl was already in her seat, her head bent over her book as if she had predicted my movements. Our eyes met, and I felt my face turn bright red. Meryl chuckled lightly, as if she had been waiting for me the entire time.
I sat down in my chair, which happened to be right next to Meryl's. She looked over at me with a small smile on her face and then gently put her arm around my shoulders. In a split second, I felt every nerve in my body come alive.
I felt her arm wrap itself around me, pulling me close by my chair. Her slender fingers ran through my hair, and I couldn't help but look back at her. Her touch felt electric and yet so natural, and I felt myself drawn to her like a magnet. It felt like a dream come true.
Meryl looked over at me with a gentle expression on her face. "Would you like to read with me?" she asked softly.
I felt my heart skip a beat, as I never would have imagined that Meryl would ask me to share this intimate and precious moment with her. I wanted to say yes right away, but I also wanted to enjoy her attention as much as possible.
"I'd love to," I replied, feeling my face break out in a blush.
Meryl and I adjusted in our seats, and we both reached out and took the book in our hands.
The two of us silently read together, my heart beating rapidly as I could feel Meryl's gaze on me. I was so used to reading alone, but now I had someone to share my thoughts and feelings with.
I looked up from the book and met Meryl's eyes, and the moment our eyes met, it was as if time had stopped for a moment. I could see everything in her eyes — her love and adoration, her fear and worry, her hope and dreams.
Meryl and I both got completely immersed in the book we were reading, and as we kept reading, I could see her growing more and more invested in the story. Her eyes were glimmering and sparkling like jewels, and she was completely focused on the words on the page.
I felt myself getting completely lost in the story as well, almost as if the words were magically pulling us both into a different world altogether. I could feel myself grow attached to the characters, their struggles, and their triumphs. Meryl and I were on the same journey together, and it felt absolutely amazing.
As the school bell rang, my thoughts were cut short. Meryl rolled her eyes at the fact that reading time was over, and she had to get back to class.
I looked at her with my eyebrows raised as if to suggest we could read together during lunch. Meryl simply laughed and shook her head.
"I don't know how much we can get done in just an hour," she said playfully.
"I'm sure we can figure something out," I replied, looking back at her.
Meryl then turned to me, and she looked completely serious this time. "I want to sit alone with you at lunch," she said softly.
My heart immediately started beating quickly, as I realized what she meant. My mind was racing with different possibilities, but I was still somewhat confused by her sudden request. Nevertheless, I nodded at her and accepted.
