* August's POV *

I laid there in the bed while the phone constantly rung. Leaning over to answer the phone with my eyes still halfway closed.
August: Wassup?

* Chanelle's POV *

I was fast asleep when I heard a knock at my window. I opened it when I realized it was August.
Chanelle: What you doing here? It's 2 in the morning.
My eyes got wide when I could tell he had been crying.
Chanelle: What's wrong?
I asked. I helped him climb inside.
August: They took my brother mane.
He started crying. I watched him while he cried & he grabbed me placing his head in my lap.
August: He's dead.
I was at a loss of words.
Chanelle: Everything's gonna be okay. I promise...
I spoke back to him. He kept repeating those same words.
Chanelle: Come on, let's pray.
August: To who?
Chanelle: God.
August: There ain't no damn God!
Chanelle: Don't say that. Yes it is!
August: Well why he took my brother mane?
I grabbed his hand & had him kneel down with me.
Chanelle: Dear God, I ask you to put your loving hands around August & his family right now. They need all the guidance they can have right now. Wrap your loving hands around those beautiful daughters of Mel's. Show him the way God. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
I stood up & held August's hand. I got inside the bed & pulled the covers back so he could lay down, wrapping my hands around so he could sleep.
The Morning...
Mrs. Leena: Nelle!
Rev. Hopkins: What the?!
I quickly sat up & August stood.
Chanelle: It's not what you think.
Rev. Hopkins: It's not what I think?! I'd think you laying up with some boy in your bed!
He said coming over towards August.
Rev. Hopkins: What you doing in bed with my daughter?
Chanelle: Mama!
Mrs. Leena: I don't want to even hear it Chanelle!
She said walking out my room & back downstairs. I grabbed my daddy.
Chanelle: Daddy stop!
He pushed me & I fell against the floor while August made his way out.
Chanelle: August!
Rev. Hopkins: You aren't allowed around or with that boy anymore. Understand?
Chanelle: No.
I mumbled while he made his way out my room.
Rev. Hopkins: What you say?
Mama came & grabbed him.
Mrs. Leena: She didn't say anything. Come on & get you some coffee.
Rev. Hopkins: Do you understand?
Chanelle: Yes daddy. I understand. I understand that I'm not your dog or somebody in your church!
Mrs. Leena: This has been a long morning for all of us. Let's just eat & pray about it.
Chanelle: His brother was just killed.
Rev. Hopkins: God bless his soul, but you do that again.. You'll be killed.
Chanelle: Kill me then!
I yelled at him while he charged at me, but I moved out the way.
Mrs. Leena: Now just stop it! Stop it! This move has been hard on everybody!
Rev. Hopkins: She thinks she grown now!
Chanelle: Not grown, but legally I am. I don't y'all or this shit.
Rev. Hopkins: Excuse me?
Chanelle: I'm outta here.
Mrs. Leena: No! We're gonna stick together & pray through it all!
Mama yelled out while I made my way out the front door.

* August's POV *

The funeral was finally over. I cried & said my goodbyes to my brother. Grabbing Kayden's hand & wrapping my arm around my mama. I walked back over to the family limo & Chanelle walked from behind a tree.
August: I'll talk to y'all later mama.
Ms. Sheila: You coming home today?
August: Yeah.
She got inside & I walked over towards Chanelle. She gave me a hug.
Chanelle: Just stopping by.
August: It's aight.
Chanelle: You okay? Well I know you ain't okay with everything going on...
I interrupted her words with a kiss.
August: Preciate you being there for me.
I gave her another hug, this time tighter.
Chanelle: You're welcome.
August: Where ya headed?
I asked walking next to her.
Chanelle: Been staying with Monique.
August: Why?
Chanelle: Well, I moved out my parents house. It's not for me anymore.
August: You like staying with Monique?
I raised my eyebrow at her.
Chanelle: Yeah.
She answered laughing.
Chanelle: Little more crazier than I'm use to. She's got 3 brothers & just her mom there.
August: I know.
Chanelle: Yeah, but it's been fun there.
She told me before crossing the street.
Chanelle: I'll see you at school.
August: Aight.
