I WAS STANDING by Alaya, helping her in pouring the last bit of batter from the mixing bowl into the waffle maker, when she became a little excited. "Mommy, look. Mommy, look." Alaya said with a smile, and I nodded, matching her smile. "I'm making pancakes!" She said it excitedly, and I took the bowl from her hands after it was all gone while correcting her. "Waffles, baby, we're making waffles."

She started repeating the word to herself, trying to pronounce it right as I closed the lid and the timer on the waffle maker began to count down. "We're thinking of doing it sometime in September, maybe October, depending on how long it's going to take for the family to be ready." I laughed at her last comment, placing the empty bowl in the sink. "You already know it's going to be pushed back; this family can never get organized on time for anything for the life of them." I simply said, and this time Abrianna's voice laughed through the phone.

"It's the truth, though, no matter how hard we try to. So I would just have everything ready for October and let everyone know it's late September." I finished, unable to suppress my laugh. "Lemme see your hands, Laylay." Alaya then moved her hands up, and I used a paper towel to wipe off the remaining traces of the mix.

"You right, you right. Imma just have everything ready first before making reservations, and then let them know in like a week or two. That way, we'll have everything in order and avoid any last-minute stress. Plus, it gives us some flexibility in case anything unexpected comes up. Like you leaving because of some call for work, again."

I only sighed and succeeded in cleaning Alaya's hands. "Whatever; that was only one time. Plus, it was important." I simply said, and Alaya tapped me, then pointed towards the living room. "Can I watch Monsters vs. Aliens?" She asked, trying to pronounce it better, but I already understood and nodded.

I lifted her off the counter and sat her down after giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Mhm, go ahead and put it on. Just make sure you don't turn the volume up too loud." I reminded her, and she nodded before grabbing the remote and running over to the DVD & VHS player. "Yeah, that "one" time we had grandma over, and you just up and left."
