It had been two months since Kate and Derek started trying to find a family.

It was now April, and Ohio was starting to warm up.

Kate and Derek had been working on trying to start their family for a good two months, though they found themselves having some trouble.

Kate got her period a few times, and it put them off, though they figured they would try again the following month.

Though the first month they had tried, Kate thought she was; she wasn't feeling like herself.

When she returned with a negative test and told Derek, he got bummed out about it but ensured she didn't see it.

Since then, the two had tried a few more times.

Though Kate still wasn't feeling like herself. She had opted not to sleep with her husband.

Derek had been a little busy with work since Kate hadn't felt like herself. While she went to bed, he stayed up late in his office across the hall to get a head-on some of his projects.

By the time he got to bed, she was long gone, though he kissed her head before rolling over and falling asleep.

It was early one morning when Derek was sitting in his tiny cubicle. He was tired from staying up late from the night before.

As Derek worked, he found himself struggling to keep his eyes open.

He was rubbing them and contemplating taking a half day.

As Derek sat back in his chair and yawned, his friend Louis came around the corner of his cubicle, "Hey Derek, are you alright?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm just tired," Derek answered, "What's up?" He asked.

"I was wondering if you could look over something for me."

"Yeah, sure," he told him.

As the two started to go over what Louis had written, Dawn came to his cubicle, "Hey, Derek?"

Derek looked at her wide-eyed, "Yeah . . . do you have coffee?" He asked before she could answer.

Dawn handed him a cup, "What kind of a question is that? I could tell you were exhausted from the moment you walked in."

Derek smiled as he took the coffee, "Thanks," he answered, "What's going on?" He then asked Dawn while trying to read Louis's article.

"Mr. Berkley sent me an email. He wants to see you in his office immediately; I forwarded it to you and Tina."

Tina came around the corner, "Why does he want to see you?" She asked him.

"I don't know," Derek replied, "I don't think I did anything wrong!"

Derek pulled up the email on his desktop and quickly skimmed it before looking back at his friends.

"No, you didn't; you've been busting your ass for weeks."

Dawn shrugged at him, "I don't know what to tell you. He just sent it to me, so I forwarded it to you both."

Derek sighed, "Alright, I'll see what he wants."

Derek got up from his desk and approached the Elevator with his three work friends next to him.

He opened the door and stepped in.

Tina looked at him, "I'm sure whatever it is, it's fine," She told him.

Derek sighed, looked up at the ceiling, and then back at the three before the elevator door closed.
