Inspired song: (Don't Give Up on Me by Andy Grammer)
(Authors note: Change of POV, you'll be looking through the eyes of Neteyam.)
Waking up to the sound of a helicopter startled me. I stretch as the noise fades, and the sun's warmth touches my face. My heart skips a beat when I see the love of my life lying right beside me. A smile creeps across my face as I gently kiss the side of her neck.
"Good morning, beautiful."
I greet her with a cheerful tone.
Something feels off. Brushing her hair from her face, I notice she doesn't stir or utter a word. Worry takes hold as I shake her gently, yet she remains in a deep slumber. Fear begins to bubble within me. I shake her a bit more urgently and call out her name.
"Y/n, wake up!"
Checking her pulse, my heart races even faster when I find it faint and irregular. Panic surges through my veins. Without hesitation, I scoop her up, lifting her onto my shoulder.
"I've got you, Y/n."
I murmured, my voice trembling, hoping she'd be okay.
Descending the rocky wall, I navigate quickly through the forest, making my way towards the village. As the pod comes into view, I move her from my shoulder to hold her in my arms.
"Help!"
I cry out, my voice breaking, as I approach our pod.
Mum and Dad rush over as they see me, Y/n, limp and fragile in my arms.
"What happened?"
Dad asks, a mixture of worry and confusion in his voice, but I'm too preoccupied to respond. I gently place Y/n on the bed, with Kiri swiftly settling beside her.
"Neteyam!"
Dad presses with growing assertiveness, but I'm overwhelmed.
"I can't right now, Dad!"
The room falls into an eerie hush, with all eyes focused on me and my father.
"I'm sorry, but I need you to go get Norm."
I say, my tone is heavy with apology. Kiri's eyes well up as she clings to Y/n's hand, cradling it against her chest.
Dad exits, leaving the room tense. I search through Y/n's belongings and find a spare oxygen mask.
"Hurry."
Kiri pleads.
"I'm coming."
I assure her, attempting to maintain my composure. Without further delay, I begin to remove the old mask, but my actions are abruptly halted.
"What happened?"
Norm rushes over to me.
"She's not breathing."
I informed him.
Without hesitation, I replaced the old mask with a new one.
"Be careful."
Norm says in a tone of alarm.
"I need my medical kit."
As Norm departs to fetch the medical kit, I keep a close eye on Y/n, observing her breathing through the mask. Suddenly, she awakens with a sharp gasp.
"Your okay, your okay.'
I reassure her, feeling a sense of relief. Kiri looks upwards as if saying a silent prayer before smiling at me.
