Regulus is sitting in silence, slowly working his way through a full English breakfast. He has no interest in food, but annoyingly, he needs to eat well if he is to build his strength. As of now, he is still slim with little muscle mass. However, he has improved slightly since September as his bones no longer protrude from his body. He sips his coffee (black, of course) and listens in on Dorcas, Evan, and Barty, who are sitting in front of him, giggling about something. His brows raise when he hears his brother's name.
"...and apparently Peter added nettles instead of rose thorns, and the whole potion went green." Barty sniggers
Dorcas starts laughing. "And then... and then" She can't get her words out for laughing so much
"Sirius started just throwing all the ingredients they had left into the potion!" Barty helps her
"And it exploded!" Dorcas shrieks, giggling.
Evan, who had been having the whole story explained to him by their two friends, is in a fit of giggles shaking his head from side to side.
"fucking idiots!" Evan laughs wiping a tear from his eye "So stupid"
"What are you laughing at half-blood!?" Caius Avery spits towards Dorcas from further down the table
Dorcas falls silent.
"Your face, Avery," Regulus barks back, not even raising his head to look at him. "Don't you know? it resembles that of a toad. " he looks at him now and has to hold back his smile when he sees that Avery's face has gone bright red, a vein popping from his forehead.
Some of Avery's friends let out a snigger until he turns and sends piercing looks back at them in response. Avery doesn't dare say anything back to Regulus. He wouldn't, considering the family Regulus comes from. Regulus' father is in the same social circle as Avery's father, so they stay moderately civil, which is difficult considering they share a dorm room and Avery is a blood supremacist maniac.
Avery scoffs and storms out of the Great Hall, dragging his two friends with him.
"Thanks, Reg" Dorcas smiles lovingly, reaching for his hand. Regulus flinches and moves his hands back hastily before Dorcas can grab them. "Sorry, no touching," she reminds herself.
Regulus can't stand people touching him anymore. It makes his breathing faster and his mind foggy, and he always feels like he's going to pass out if people even slightly touch him. His friends forget often as it's only been this way since last Christmas, the Christmas that was especially hard on Regulus when he stayed at Grimmauld Place. Those two weeks were filled with days of unbearable pain. Which Regulus suffered, at the hand of his cousin Bellatrix. Supposedly, it was to toughen him up. At least if he's ever on the other hand of torture, he would never give in.
Regulus nods his head towards her appreciatively.
"Don't listen to him." Evan wraps his arm over Dorcas' shoulder, pulling her close
"I fucking hate that entitled little worm" Barty adds, eyes stalking him as he leaves the hall
"so do I" Regulus states "he'll regret ever even breathing near you"
Barty grins at him wildly, an insane glint in his eye "Oh yea he will!". Sometimes Regulus worries that Barty might actually be a little bit sadistic, but he's nice to him and his friends so he doesn't mind really. Plus it means that Barty is vicious when protecting them.
Evan runs his hand through his blonde curls. "Just don't kill him, alright, I don't want to see you both carried off to Azkaban."
"Only if we're caught." Regulus tilts his head to the side
