"You're late," Shadow snapped the second he laid eyes on me, lowering his phone into his pocket.
"Be grateful I even showed up," I muttered under my breath, keeping my head lowered so he didn't see me speak. I didn't need to give him an excuse to shoot me just yet.
"Answer me if I'm speaking," he hissed, his arm coming out to block my route to his car.
I bit the inside of my cheek, taking a few steps back, looking around us with unrestrained annoyance. Then, I forced a thin, poisonous smile onto my face and bowed mockingly, "Aiyoo... how dare this lowly peasant waste your precious time, I deserve to be killed."
Shadow glowered, his hand raising quickly, no doubt to deliver one of his infamous blows that all the underlings were so used to.
Lucky for me, he didn't get the chance.
"Hee-Jun, what are you doing?" Achilles's voice cut through the cold night, his shoes clicking on the stone steps as he came down them. "She was making a joke, why are you so offended? She didn't mean any harm."
A grin that challenged the brightness of the sun spread on my face and I clasped my hands in front of me, rocking on the balls of my feet. "Are you having a pleasant evening, Sir? You shouldn't stay out too long, you'll catch a cold."
Hee-Jun, rolled his eyes at me, letting out a light scoff before offering Achilles a curt nod, "I overreacted."
Achilles smiled widely at me, his hand reaching out to pat my head fondly, "It can happen, especially before a job. Try not to let your worries get to you."
I relished in his favour, batting my lashes and blinking up at him, putting on the perfect show of a completely innocent and harmless follower.
Yoo knew I wasn't that but he chose to ignore the facts and focus on the story I was trying to tell; the story of a girl who would never grow to be a threat, who would always remain loyal, like the dog he trained her to be.
