The pen danced along the paper, creating the essay that would be worth at least $75. As I continued to write, snow fell to the ground outside creating a blanket covering the dirty streets where I lived. Minutes past until I dropped the pen in satisfaction, it was an easy task that would make some good cash. I jumped off of the top bunk of my bed and made my way to the window. It was early in the morning, the streets were covered in snow and a thick layer of fog suffocated the air. A soft snore brought me back to reality and I looked over to see my younger brother, Carl, was still sleeping. Without another thought I left the room and made my way down stairs.
Our house was not the average house you would usually see, even in this town. It consisted of me, Philip, and my brothers Ian, Carl and Liam. My older sister Fiona who basically raises us and my younger sister Debbie. I wasn't the least bit surprised when I saw that majority of us were up this early, the mornings were always chaotic.
"Hey Lip, guess what?" I turned around to see Ian at the dining table eating some cheap cereal in a bowl.
"What's up?"
"I heard we're getting neighbours" Ian eagerly replies.
"We have neighbours- Kev and V?" I questioningly state.
"No, the other side!" He adds, "Plus they're moving in this morning and Fiona has offered to help them"
"Doesn't she already have enough on her plate, than to help these people she doesn't even know?" I walk over to the living room where I find Fiona rummaging through some stuff.
"Hey Fiona, I'll help the new neighbours unpack while you drop Debbie off at that party" I offer.
"You're a life-saver, I finally found these keys, I gotta go!" Fiona stumbles past me in a hurry a small Debbie following behind while holding Liam.
Grabbing my coat I left the house and made my way to the neighbours. The house looked similar to mine although their's was smaller, and like Kev and Veronica's it was attached to ours. Although, doing the polite thing, I knock on the front door. A few seconds past until the door was opened, my teeth had begun chattering away as the cool breeze flew past, a girl about my age was revealed.
"Who are you?" The mysterious girl asked. She was tall and had dyed red hair that sat on her shoulders. She was wearing jeans and a band shirt, whom I hadn't heard of before, with a pair of camo combat boots.
"Lip- Phillip Gallagher" I stuck my hand out awkwardly. I stood there uncomfortably for a moment before I realised she wasn't going to shake it and crossed my arms. "I am here to help with the unpacking..."
"Come in, I'm Sophie..." She says cautiously before signalling for me to come in. I had no idea what I was getting into.
