Title: Enough
Pairing: Louis/Zayn
Rating: PG-13 [For swearing and angst-filled violence that hurts my shipper’s heart]
Word Count: 2,916
Summary: Zayn has always been insecure and Louis has always been himself. When the two clash on one of the most important issues of their relationship, will this be the end?
Disclaimer: This is not a ship that I’m usually aboard, but I see this particular issue as one that these two would disagree with the most. And despite this not being my BroTP, I found my heart aching nearly the whole time I wrote this, ergh.
(Dedicated to Kenz because I just realized I never did write that Zouis one shot she requested. Someday, someday... but in the meantime, I hope this makes up for it.)

Zayn can tell that Louis just doesn’t understand.

He doesn’t understand why Zayn seems to persistently push away the idea, to avoid it at all possible costs and hide from it. There’s really no harm in it, he thinks. Sure, there’ll be those that don’t approve, but there’ll be so many more that do. And if they have each other, shouldn’t that be enough?

            For Zayn, it isn’t.

“Can’t we just try?” Louis nuzzles his face into Zayn’s neck, inhaling his scent, shivering at the exquisite feeling of his body fitting so snugly against his own. “What’s the worst that could happen?” He reaches up and peppers kisses along the tan lad’s jaw line, praying for the best.

“You mean, like the fact that we could lose most of our fans, get shouted at by management, and ruin the other boys’ careers?” The Bradford boy replies with a sigh. The two of them have been over this so many times. He tries not to get upset, he really does, but sometimes he just wishes Louis would open his eyes and see that it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t.

He tries to ignore the feeling of Louis’ lips on his skin, sending delightful sparks through his system. He knows he’s trying to use it against him, to convince him, but he’s not going to give in.

Louis doesn’t seem to have a retort for that, not even an obnoxiously witty one. So instead he sits up and takes Zayn’s face in his hands where he lays on his back on the mattress, and then bends down, kissing him fully on the lips.

Zayn tries not to show how much he enjoys it. He doesn’t want to be full out mad at his boyfriend, but he does want to express his irritation, and participating willingly in a snogging session is not going to do that.

His lips are just so… ugh. Why does he have to do this?

“Louis,” he pulls them apart, ignoring Louis’ pitiful whimpers in protest. “We can’t. I’m sorry. You know I love you, that should be enough, right?”

Louis stares at him with big, blue eyes. He loves him too, that’s obvious, but he still doesn’t understand.

“I love you too, but loving each other openly to the world shouldn’t be so hard if you do,” Louis finally says, dropping the childish act he always has when he’s not getting his way. Now, he’s being mature, being serious, and things both very good and very bad can come out of Louis being serious. “What are you so scared for?”

“I’m not scared,” Zayn says stubbornly, though he does know deep inside that part of him is. He’s scared to admit his love for his best mate, which is wrong, but he can’t help it. He’s just cowardly and there’s nothing anyone can do about that.
