Thea groggily woke up in her house's library, confused both by her strange sleeping spot and the gentle scolding of her grandmother's voice. "Thea, look at you sleeping in the library... again." It took a few moments to process. Then, it all came flooding back. She had been reading one of her family's oldest books, so absorbed in the story that she had inevitably drifted off to sleep.
Thea rose from the musty rug and made her way to the kitchen, where she found her two siblings, Benjamin and Beatrice, already eating breakfast with their grandparents. "Good morning." Everyone said. She came in, smiled sheepishly, and shook her head in agreement when Grandma teased her about making the library her bedroom. "We might as well take your bed to the library if you continue sleeping there." She said laughing.
The family was gathered around the table, the smell of bacon wafting in from the kitchen as they shared morning chatter. Grandpa was especially jovial today, he got a letter from one of the family's close relatives, yesterday. Everyone was eating joyfully when, suddenly, there was a distinct knocking at the window. "What is that sound?" Ben said while looking in the direction of the sound, we were all looking too. "I don't know" Bea said. "I think I know what it is." Grandma said while standing up. "I think I know too." Grandpa said while smiling to the children.
Grandpa leaped up from the table, and the children followed him curiously. "What is it Grandpa?" Thea asked. Outside, a majestic white owl sat perched on the windowsill. Grandpa was beaming as he opened the window, and the owl stepped inside to the gasps of the children. "Children, it's Golias. My owl. He must have letters." Grandpa said enthusiastically.
The owl had two letters tucked in its wings, and it delivered them to the children. "Thea it is no other than Hogwarts Letters. Just you see, Golias got them himself, he must be feeling honored." Grandpa announced. "Thea, you are going to love Hogwarts." Ben said smiling. She was so happy she felt her heart beating faster. "When am I going to Hogwarts?" Bea said while turning around, going back to the table while pouting; crossing her arms. "Don't worry you will get them, you just need to wait a few more years." Thea said while looking at my sister.
The family spent the rest of the day full of joy, and the children beamed with excitement for the future, well everyone but Bea, she was going to be alone for a long time. They were now sitting on the library sofa, each one reading their own book. Beatrice was pouting. "Why are you sad? You are going to have Grandpa and Grandma all to yourself!" Ben said pretending to be sad. "I didn't see it that way." Bea said now feeling very happy. Everyone laughed at the little girl realization.
Going to Hogwarts and studying everything she saw and read in books, felt surrealistic to Thea.
But she was only afraid of one thing.
Making friends.
Would she be able to do it?
