The youngest Fray walked away before her sister could say anything further. Trying to ease her mind about the fact that she was about to see Simon. The two hadn't spoken since the night on the rooftop, and it wasn't like he was going out of his way to talk to her.Once they finally reached the alley Simon was already waiting for the four.
Clary jogged over to the boy and wrapped her arms around his body, "Hey, you. Oh, thanks for being here,"
"You don't need to do this alone," The two separated, Simon looking deeply into Clary's eyes as he spoke in a soothing voice. "It's not who we are,"
The Lewis boy turned his attention onto Aspen, taking a step towards her to give her a hug as well. Only for the redhead to take a small step back, avoiding his embrace as she kept a cold exterior.
"Are you sure you're feeling up to this?" Aspen asked.
Simon furrowed his brows in confusion. Aspen had never reacted this way towards him and he didn't know how to feel about it. "Yeah, it's just a cold. Not the end of the world,"
"The world's been ending for a thousand years. 'Bout time, you get used to it. Now, we need to move," Alec snapped.
"Your enthusiasm is striking," Aspen turned her focus onto the tall boy, giving him a straight-lipped smile.
"Our mom's loft is just across the alley," Clary said.
"All right, well, we have to be careful. There are eyes all over this place and everybody in the Shadow World's looking for you guys," Mason stated.
"I mean, I guarantee you, no one's gonna find this shortcut. I used to take it back in middle school to see Clary and Aspen," Simon smiled at the oldest Fray, which she returned. "You might know the Shadow World, but trust me...I know Brooklyn. Come on," He smirked before quickly jumping over the ivy covered stone.
The four stood there, eyes-widened at the boy's sudden agility. Aspen quickly took note of it as a part of her could feel that something was wrong with Simon.
Alec and Mason helped the twins over the wall, falling into step with Simon as he continued to lead them through the forest-filled back area of their building.
"Have you been doing parkour or something?" Clary couldn't help but chuckle as she watched the Lewis boy swiftly jump onto a ladder.
"You've gotten a lot better at this," Simon said as he helped Clary up from the ladder.
Aspen couldn't help but roll her eyes.
She really was delusional.
"I was just gonna say the same about you,"
"Climbing a fire escape excites mundanes. I'll never understand these people," Alec let out.
Aspen held in her smile as she quickly raised her eyebrows. The redhead couldn't help but agree with him.
Once the five reached the top, the redhead couldn't help but let her eyes wonder as she took in all of the runes that were displayed all around her apartment building.
"Whoa!" Clary let out. "I don't remember it like this,"
"Me neither," Aspen said, reaching her hand out towards the wall.
"These are runes and wards of protection cast by a warlock," Mason exclaimed.
"Dot,"
"Some of these have been here for years,"
"The only difference is now we can actually see them," Clary touched the brick.
"Yo, Clary. What are all these tags?" Simon spoke up.
