Despair

The rest that remained in the city stood frozen as a violent whirlwind of heartbreaking screams and cries came from the woods. The Nie disciples immediately drew their sabres from their sheaths and prepared to rush to help the victims, but they were stopped by the Lans and Weis.

"They can't be helped now," the Yiling Wei's eldest disciple quietly said. Yet there was an inexpressible horror and panic in his eyes.

"But there must be someone still alive!" angrily blurted out one of the Nie Sect.

"The main forces of the hellhounds are concentrated in that direction, we shouldn't take such a risk."

If they recklessly throw all their forces now to help the dumbasses who couldn't sit still, then this entire hunt would be pointless and they would all die. No matter how many strong cultivators gathered here, the end for everyone would be the same.

If only luck had not turned away from them like it had not turned away from Wei Ying on that day.

The Nies were eager to fight, the blood in their veins were boiling with rage as their sabres rattled in their lust for slashing the cursed creatures' flesh.

The Lans tried to keep the peace and prayed to the ancestors, but even their souls could not bear the suffering of those who had been slain by the hellhounds.

And the Weis... The Weis were awaiting orders.

"So what should we do now?" the Gusu Lan's senior disciple asked whilst thoroughly suppressing a shudder.

"Take your initial positions. We'll trick them into coming here. A-ze, stay here." ordered Wei Yang.

"But, fuqin," Wei Changze frowned.

"You are going to stay here, Wei Changze."

For a moment, bloody flashes flickered in the silver eyes.

The man took a few of his disciples with him and detoured towards the source of the unbearable noise, full of pain and tears.

What they saw before their eyes could not be put into words. Even though they had seen a lot of woes in their lives, this could not be called just a bad night hunt.

Dozens of cultivators were laying on the bloody ground, torn to shreds and nibbled to the bone by some extremely voracious creatures. The surviving Jin disciples gathered in a circle, standing back to back, and repelled the monsters' follow-up attacks. As if mocking the youths in gold, the hellhounds swirled around them, emitting growls that sounded like a muffled laughter.

'Same as his own...' Wei Yang thought frustratingly, throwing the hounds aside just with three swings of his sword.

As the Jins grouped up, Sect leader Wei and his disciples fought off the monsters' fierce attacks, almost sparing no spiritual strength. As the hellhounds huddled to one side, the remaining cultivators ran back to Guanzhou, forcing the monsters to split into two packs. Most of them ran after the weaklings.
