Like she expected, her mother has ordered to reinforce the palace's security and its adjoining pavilions. There were four or more guards at every corner and doors, and they were forbidden to obey Wei Ying if she posed and insisted that they should let her leave the palace.
The girl didn't want to cause trouble for her people, so she didn't dare to do anything rash. Besides, she didn't want to leave Wei Yongsheng alone. The boy had barely recovered from his shock at what had happened within the throne room. There was no need to make him even more nervous.
At least not until he would fall into a deep sleep.
It was not for nothing that grandfather had shown his beloved granddaughter how and where to get around any barriers.
While the commanders were assembling dark cultivator troops by Wei-furen order to rescue their leader, Xiao Cangse tucked the children in her and Wei Changze's quarters. Mother believed that her little angels would be much more comfortable and safe staying there in her absence. Wei Yongsheng was put to bed quite quickly, which was not the case with Wei Ying.
The girl was not stubborn and actually tried to sleep. However, the mental turmoil that had almost caused her earlier qi deviation did not allow her to fall asleep. So she asked her mother's permission to let her at least practice calligraphy. Doing something she didn't like might be able to put her to sleep.
Wei-furen told her not to get too carried away and to go to bed at the first call. Successfully disguising her irascibility and restlessness into obedience Wei Ying hugged her mother passionately and wished her people the best of luck on their journey.
'Bring them home safely' her words could be interpreted as a harsh order, but it was more than just an order. It was the plea of an innocent child who sincerely wished for his loved ones to return as soon as possible.
The troops responded to their little mistress with a low bow in unison and vowed to bring everyone back to the sect.
Afterward, everyone disappeared behind a haze of lighted shifting talismans.
All of this was happening in secret from the elders, who obviously wouldn't approve of such hasty actions. They would single-handedly say that the girl's outburst could not be connected to the hunting, and might not hesitate to accuse Wei Ying of being capricious and irresponsible.
Everyone knew that she loved her grandfather a lot and almost every day tailed him. And Wei Yang was very fond of her, fulfilling her every wish and showing her all the beauties of the world.
Of course, the elders didn't like anything their sect leader allowed his precious granddaughter to do. Even the parents didn't mind.
Let Yiling Wei was known for being labeled as the first sect where dark cultivators were at a premium, but that was just a formality. They were nothing more than ambitious and devoted disciples to their leader, whose duties included unconditional obedience to the elders as well (as the main source of wisdom and personifying the sect's strength). And now the elders felt that their influence was gradually eroding, and their opinion became second-rate to the leader.
Because the genius' opinion was far more powerful than their word.
Wei Ying was not deaf or blind. She felt all their whispers and slanted glances. She didn't ignore them, but she didn't do anything about it yet, remaining a casual observer.
It wasn't her fault she'd been blessed with impeccable intelligence and power. And it wasn't her fault that her people had more trust in her than those snakes who kept whispering to her grandfather and parents that it was time for Yiling Wei to expand it's horizons.
