Aqua waded in the cool, shallow water of the river next to the Spinosaurus marsh. As she gazed at her reflection, she couldn't help but notice the light pink, gaping scratches on her nose, sail, arms, and back. She wondered how she got them, but couldn't recall anything except that they were caused by a large dinosaur when she was young. It was pointless to dwell on them now.
Plunging her snout into the water, Aqua opened her mouth, filtering through the water and waiting for fish. Although schools of tiny swiftswimmers swam through her open jaws, they were too small and quick for her to catch, so she waited for bigger fish to venture through the river. Aqua scanned the water for any flashes of silver but was surprised when she spotted a flash of solid gold. It was a rare thrasher and quite enormous.
Aqua remained perfectly still, waiting for the fish to come closer. As the thrasher got within range, Aqua snapped down as hard as she could on its head. Her sharp teeth pierced its skull instantly, filling her mouth with the warm tang of blood. The fish thrashed desperately, but Aqua's teeth were made for gripping. She held on, waiting for the thrashing to eventually stop. Once the fish grew still, Aqua raised her snout out of the water, tipped her head back, and gulped the fish down in one bite.
"Nice catch." Aqua turned her head to see one of the other spinosauruses staring at her, his voice sounding mildly jealous. Aqua flicked her tail curiously. "Your blue color blends in so well with the water." He briskly stated. "I wish you'd just share your catches." He turned his tail and began to walk away. Aqua ignored him. She needed food, too.
Remembering that her scales were Aqua blue instead of the normal grey that other spinosaurus all had on their scales, Aqua couldn't help but wonder why. Why was she blue? Why couldn't she be normal? Aqua signed. Another thing that is pointless to dwell on.
Carefully but briskly, Aqua stepped back into the marsh as the familiar scent of water, mud and trees filled the air. She walked on the path to her nest. A frog croaked. Insects buzzed. Yet, it still seemed too quiet. Like, something was being hidden from her. Something... important.
Finally reaching the hollow tree, Aqua squeezed into the enormous hole that she had carved out with her claws, and settled down in her nest, lined with damp moss and leaves. Curling up and placing her paddle tail over her body, aqua was left to contemplate all the questions she had about herself.
Why can't I just be normal?
