Day Fourteen

Mia's progress was not going as great as Ailis hoped still. Mia would only get flashes here and there, but nothing crazy. 21-year-old Mia was just better adjusting into the life current Mia had made for her. Her and Mors were getting along a little better and Mors was also feeling on the up as well. Ailis hadn't given up hope, though. She never would. It was nice to see that Mia was settling in better, and she just hoped that maybe one of these days they'd come flooding back.

The three of them were sitting on the couch when there was a knock on the door. Ailis got up to answer it, surprised to see a cop and a lawyer standing at the door. She cracked it open, keeping her foot wedged so they couldn't force their way in.

"Hello?"

"Ailis Saros?" The lawyer asked.

"Who's asking?"

"My name is Colt West, I am a lawyer with the state representing a small lawsuit against a person who was involved in a drunk driving incident. I understand that you and your family were all injured in the crash and your spouse has amnesia due to the accident."

"That's some serious sensitive medical information you've got there for not having talked to us before," Ailis said suspiciously. That name sounded fake as hell, and she didn't trust it. "Can I see some identification? From the both of you?"

"Oh yes of course," the lawyer pulled out a small wallet that contained his ID and a certification from Washington State and the cop had her badge presented as well. "I'm only here to ask if you'd like to be a part of suit we're putting together. The defendant caused a lot of property damage both in personal properties and city properties. All I know about you and your spouse is what we've collected from testimonies," Ailis looked them both over warily.

"Alright, yeah. Sorry," she relaxed when she saw no signs of dishonesty. "My spouse's family turned back up and was causing some trouble, we're all a little on edge. Let me just grab my dog and put him up really quickly. I'll be right back," she gently closed the door and moved to grab Sea Monkey. He wasn't aggressive, but cops were so she didn't want him getting hurt if he got too curious. "Come on sausage boy," she said, patting his belly as she put him in his oversized kennel before looking at Mia. "There's a cop and a lawyer at the door, he's part of a suit against the driver that hit us and wants to talk to us," Mia looked at Mors.

"Are you feeling up to that, buddy?" She asked. "These lawyers and cops can get- intense and I just wanna make sure you're okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine. You taught me how to handle cops," Mors answered, smiling at her. "I don't think is a situation for throwing eggs at them, though."

"Definitely not," Ailis snorted. "Are you feeling up for it, Mia?"

"No, but I guess we could hear them out?" She shrugged. Ailis gave her a worried look.

"I can take care of this alone, it's okay," she offered. "I don't want to put you through unnecessary stress."

"I'll sit with you two, but I probably won't say much, I'll get the electric kettle going you can let them in," Mia got up to the kitchen and Mors was right behind her. Ailis nodded and went over to the door, opening it up.

"Come on in, we're just in the living room. Mia might not be feeling up to talking too much with her injuries, and my son's only 15 so questions for him will have to go through me. Can we get you two anything to drink?"

"I'm alright," the cop answered. Officer Wilkinson was what was on her vest. Ailis led them to the living room, gesturing at the other couch and sitting where she could be between them and her family.
