"y/nnnn!! hanging out with me and the rest of the girls today? chō said she could make it now!"

the h/c-haired girl turned her head to the side at the call of her name, eyes landing on her cheery best friend. she was faced with a smiling human, who sat on top of the desk adjacent to y/n's awaiting a response.

but first, the mentioned one, chō, walked over. she had intense silky black hair that mirrored her intense dark eyes. but look's aren't everything, as y/n's known this girl to be one of the most easygoing and softest people ever.

"you forget what today is, aiko?" the ravenette giggled as she sat with the group, the small birthmarks on her pale cheeks lifting as she smiled. "y/n's always busy on mondays."

"damn it, i forgot it was monday. gonna do your secret spy work again?" aiko teased the girl as she twirled one of her blonde curls that fell in front of her face while tilting her head.

"you know it," y/n replied while standing up from her desk and collecting her things. she originally told her friends that her monday afterschool schedule was just extra school matters, but they decided that was boring and gave y/n a spy backstory instead. although, they were a bit confused at first, on how their already-intelligent friend and class president had to go to tutoring but, whatever. fortunately for y/n, they never really questioned it.

fortunate, because on mondays, y/n doesn't actually go to spy headquarters in a hidden location or some fancy school for tutoring in advanced placement chemistry. she goes to therapy. she's gone since the start of second year, losing count of how many sessions she's sat through. today marks the first monday of her third year, therefore the first therapy session of her third year.

she told herself it was just another monday. another appointment to sit through in hopes of pleasing and assuring her parents that she'd be fine. that she was better. just another monday.

little did she know how much things would change from this day onwards.

aiko stood up first, with chō following suit. they both hugged goodbye to y/n, strongly insisting that they must hang out way more this year due to it being their last school year together. they walked away to start cleaning the classroom, e/c-eyes watching them do so.

'i think they'd be better without me.'

y/n sighed in guilt at the thought of hiding everything she's been going through from her best friends. she almost opened up once, typing them a whole paragraph. but then she cried and never sent it, going to school the next day as if she hadn't had a whole breakdown in their dms the night before.

she believes she doesn't deserve them. and that they don't deserve to be burdened with all the crap y/n is going through right now. they were her precious friends, a small distraction from the rest of her sucky world.

the class president was able to skip out on after-school cleaning duties on monday's due to, well, her being the class president, duh. so she left early, taking one last glance at her friends laughing by the chalkboard, and nodding goodbyes to some of the other students who remained.

while exiting the doors of class 3-6, a shoulder bumped into the departing girl. they both quickly bowed apologies, and y/n realized it was iwaizumi hajime from class 3-5. she assumed he was here to see his friend, oikawa, who she remembered was on the same volleyball team as him if her memory served correctly.

"my bad, l/n. is oikawa in there?" he readjusted his bag that had fallen from his shoulder during the collision.

she did not remember nodding goodbye to oikawa, so she glanced over her shoulder back into the classroom. her eyes landed on oikawa's desk, and yup, he was there. his head was face down, which explains why she didn't acknowledge him on her way out. she turned back to iwaizumi and nodded.

"thank you, get home safe," he bowed once more and entered the classroom.

"you too."

iwaizumi walked over to his friend's desk, hitting the brown head of hair that rested on the table.

"oikawa, you're not going to practice on mondays anymore, right?"

y/n was making her way to the clinic, zoned out as muscle memory took over and guided her there without her having to think. her monday appointments were always at 3:15, and with school ending at 3, she always leaves right after.

she wasn't ever too worried about people she knows seeing her, as most never left until after cleaning time. it was always the same routine. go to school, leave school, go to therapy, then leave therapy at 4:15 pm on the dot.

quite a boring routine, in her opinion. a never-ending cycle. y/n knows she needs it though, 'cause it's the only thing that has a chance of making her any better. despite how tiring it is to bring herself to class and appointments, she still does it. despite her walking out of said appointments feeling even more shitty than when she walked in, she puts up with it. for her parents, for her friends.

pushing open the tinted glass doors to the center, she prepared herself to sit and talk for an hour about her messed up head and messed up life. but nothing could've prepared her for what would happen afterward.

'let's get this over with.'
